Description: I went to Simply Thai with a group of nine other women for a friend’s stagette party Saturday evening. We made our reservation a month in advance. We were greeted by the snobby hostess, who let our "waitress" know we were there. The waitress came up to the host’s table, pointed to our table, and told us to sit down without showing us to our table. We got water after asking for it. She took one person’s drink order and then walked off. She came back 5 minutes later and took the rest of the table’s drink order. The food did come quickly but wasn't better than average. The rice was lumpy and we ordered two stars on all the dishes, but they were so spicy that it made everyone break out in sweat. We ran out of water several times. The first time we asked another employee to get us water (after waiting 5 minutes for our own waitress) and she pointed to our waitress and said, "Ask her." Our waitress still never came over, so we asked a different employee. We ran out of water again, had to ask OUR waitress again for a refill, ran out again, and never got a refill the rest of the time we were there. Like I said, the food was nothing special. We had all heard that this was one of the best places to eat Thai, and we figured it had to be good since it was located in the trendy Yaletown. Well, the prices went with the usual Yaletown, but the food was no more than average.
The clincher to the whole evening was when our waitress came over to our table and asked us not so politely to LEAVE because they were busy and needed the table. We had only been there for 1 hour. I couldn't believe it. We had made RESERVATIONS almost a month ago and they were trying to clear our table for people without reservations. Not only that, but this was obviously a special occasion (we had told them this beforehand)
We were all so shocked that we did get up. A few minutes later, after we had, left two of us decided to go back to talk to the manager. We were greeted by our very own waitress, who obviously knew we were upset. The hostess also came over and snobbily once again asked what we wanted. We said that we wanted to talk to the manager. They paused, exchanged glances, and then informed us that there was no manager that night. NO manager on a busy Saturday night??? Right! We informed them we would be calling in to speak to the manager today. A different girl who was with our group is in charge of that, so I’m not sure yet how that will play out. Needless to say, we will simply never go back to Simply Thai again.
