Asaderos

We entered Asaderos with some trepidation. Years ago, we had had a terrible meal of tough beef, tougher ribs, funky chicken and burnt chorizo. We knew the place had changed hands a while back and still shied away from it. We had heard good things. It took a few years but we finally got up the courage.

Daniel, our favorite waiter from a bar down the street, warmly greeted us. A good start. He asked if we wanted to sit inside the rancho style building with exposed beams, teja roof tiles and most importantly, ceiling fans. It was close to dark and cooling off. We chose to sit on the little terrace in front of the restaurant and watch the traffic go by.

Most people come here for the all-you-can-eat-meat but there is a full menu offering appetizers, soups, salads, steak, fish and shrimp with prices ranging from 69 pesos for the chicken fusillini garden salad to 149 pesos for a big old rib eye. We all ordered the all you can eat except Linda. She ordered the ribs off the children's menu.

We were immediately brought chips and salsas. There was salsa Mexicana, a wonderful, fairly hot red sauce, and a ridiculously good, mild, creamy, avocado based green sauce. We were refilled three times during the course of the meal.

Shortly, our first course was served – quesadillas and bean tacos. An excellent excuse to eat more salsa. Soon after a platter of meat was delivered. It was piled high with grilled meats – beef, chicken, chorizo and ribs. The beef and chorizo were gone in a heartbeat. The platter was replenished. Everything was good but the steak was the best. Five or six times the waiter rushed over with more beef. We were stuffed but happy. Then I noticed the dessert menu. I had to have some. Pineapple ice cream served in a pineapple, the perfect ending to the meal. We waddled off knowing we would be back soon.

Sails said , "Good tender beef, nice chorizo, good chicken, OK ribs and all you can eat. I'm in."

Open from 2 to 11pm, Closed Monday.

This was formerly Jalapeños, run by do-it-all Cesar and his wife Jada (say hi!) for 9 years. There is music most nights in high season. All-you-can-eat four meats is 80p. The chorizo is spicy and non-greasy. They also have chips, salsa, and fresh tortillas. From 2 to 4:30pm, they also offer light repasts as tortilla soup for 28p, guacamole for 35p, nachos for 40p, beef quesadillas for three for 45p, and tacos chorizo or carne asada for three for 40p.

It is in a beautifully remodeled brick building with climbing plants and a small outdoor seating area. They people are friendly and the food is very good. They don't accept credit cards.
