Luquin's Mexican Restaurant is definitely off the beaten path. We don't often come to this restaurant because it is located in Pahoa town which is far from Hilo. When we do travel through Pahoa on our way to Kapoho, we like to have lunch at Luquin's. Even though the restaurant looks a little run down, their food is very authentic and "
muy deliciosa!" I already tried their chicken enchilada entrée (about $7.50) and their taco salad which were very good. Their chicken enchilada is better than other chicken enchilada entrées I've tried at other Mexican restaurants on the Big Island. The decoration and the interior of the restaurant is very authentic and it seems as if you are actually dining in a small town in Mexico. The staff are very friendly and the service is very good. They renovated their parking lot which is wonderful since they didn't have much parking before. I wouldn't recommend walking around town since there are some unusual characters and locals that walk around town and occasionally come into the restaurant. My friend from Chile recommended this restaurant to me and I'm glad I tried it out! Don't order too many mixed drinks because they are really expensive and it could run up your dinner or lunch tab!
