Mangoe's

Mangoes is an inviting place in the heart of old-town Key West, right in the center of activity on Duval Street. You can enjoy spending time in the bar but I recommend having a fabulous dinner here. With both indoor and Duval-side garden dining, (the brick patio winds around and into a courtyard with trees and vines) Mangoes is known for "Floribbean" cuisine that blends Caribbean influences, local seafood and a touch of the Mediterranean. The cuisine here is a step above, with fabulous choices from the only brick oven pizza in town to Cuban Coffee Pork. Lots of fabulous seafood, too.

The staff was attentive and enjoyable. It seems whenever we travel we find someone with roots from home, and our waiter was one of them. The food was wonderful, and John found a new favorite, Mahi Mahi. If you are in Key West, Mangoes is one of the best, if not the best restaurant in town!

We had a great experience at Mangoe's, with pleasant, efficient service and excellent food. All three entrees were delicious, and the desserts were great! We were there on a Thursday night and had no trouble walking right in, though at any time other than summer we would have sat outside!

Mangoe's

One of the keys to figuring out new places is developing some friends locally. Almost everyone we talked to told us to go to Mangoes, which was a surprise because it is right in the heart of the tourist section, right on Duval. A big reason they told us was because of the mushroom martini. The mushroom martini is an appetizer consisting of several different mushroom types marinated in, well, we had no idea but they were served in a martini glass and they were "almost" the best part of the meal. The seafood entrees we ordered were fantastic. They were not served in a typical fashion -- some came with pasta and some came looking like art sculptures, but all were great.

I can't remember what I had, but I do remember that Mangoe's was an upscale, cosmopolitan eatery. The food was very good, although I do remember that the "fresh" mozzarella wasn't terribly fresh. My main course, however, was quite tasty. Good wine list as well. The outdoor dining, however warm, was nice.
