Keoki's has great food, scenery, and an ideal setting for cuisine. Unfortunately, they suffer from the ill attitudes that the locals have towards minorities. If your hostess/greeter is not Hawaiian, then your evening will go well. I have visited Kauai yearly for about a decade and it is obvious that the locals are not enamored by my race. My non-minority friends have also noted the difference in the way I am treated, and the way they are treated when they are with me. This is not a forum for race issues, but it just needed to be stated. In spite of all of this, I will still visit and recommend this establishment.

Keoki’s – always one of our favorites. Fair warning--the food is NOT stacked. Fresh island fish, beef, chicken, lobster, and shrimp. The fish is the best. You pick your fish, then pick your preparation. Ahi encrusted in mac nuts and baked with herbs (still rare), Ono Keoki-style. The have maybe six different types of fish and, I believe, four or five preparations. Want garlic mashed potatoes (oh sooooo good) instead of rice? No problem. All the dinners come with a Caesar salad and bread (good warm rolls and these little spice muffins). The second time (yes, twice in one week so you know I liked it), we had coconut chicken--only because we had been eating fish for 3 weeks and were "fished out". The chicken was outstanding--real coconut (you could see and taste it), more mashed potatoes, and then we had to pack. That was ugly.

The portions are excellent for the hungry tourist (I don’t know why I get so hungry just relaxing on the beach), and the restaurant is indoor/outdoor. Make a reservation, as it is always packed. Ask for a table near the water, there is a pond below the bar and a little waterfall. The servers have always been friendly, accommodating, and efficient. Get there a little early--the parking at this center can be tough.

Oh yeah, dessert--they have several, but the only thing we’ve ever tried is their Hula Pie. Serves two to three. Yum, yum. They also have some seating in the bar with a less expensive bar menu, though I've never tried it yet. Live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Don’t miss this one. (I would definitely pick his over Roy’s unless you really like "stacked" cuisine.)

We came back to this restaurant for a second night since we enjoyed our first experience so much. The food was wonderful, the service outstanding, the atmosphere just what you would expect of Hawaii, and the warmth of the islanders is the best part and why we wanted to return. We also enjoyed some great entertainment on our second visit. This is one place I would highly suggest to anyone visiting Kaiui. My husband and I found that many of your top restaurants require reservations a week in advance. This one did not, and we would go back again if we ever return.

The food is good. We liked the atmosphere and the proximity to the embassy. It has good food, but I wouldn't rave about it. It has a tropical, candlelit setting, which is what we like. We generally have friendly and good service.

Keoki's Paradise is in the shopping center at Poipu. Kitschy, tiki-madness fun. You dine in fake thatched huts amongst a Disneyesque, manufactured, exotique-tropical paradise. It is all a lot of fun. The borderline tiki-tacky decor aside, their fresh fish options are among the best on the island, and follow your server's recommendations very carefully -- they really know what they're talking about! Their Thai prawns appetizer is wonderful, and they have this hula pie dessert that you've just got to order. I'd only order one serving for the table. Good thing they're in the mall/shopping center, 'cuz you'll need to walk around a bit, window-shopping, before going back to the car. They have excellent fancy tropical drinks, and again, I'd defer to the server and get the special.
