While most of your tourist spots are found on the north end of Ali'i Drive, head south to the end, to the Keauhou Shopping Center for first class Asian fussion cuisine. In this not so extraordinary shopping plaza, near the Wendy's, is the home of Kenichi Pacific, one Chef Kenichi Kanada restaurants (also found in Aspen) which offers tranquil surroundings and incredible food. The restaurant also features a great sushi bar. Everything we had was outrageously delicious. We started with very fresh sashimi (sushi minus the rice), and each had a seafood dish.
Make sure you have reservations! I had the lemongrass mahimahi, a pan-seared rare, with black "forbidden rice" and mushrooms. Oh my god--it was heaven.

Kenichi is a new fusion/Japanese restaurant with a sushi bar. The menu has various Asian inspired dishes. In the two weeks we were there we went three times. Twice we had the roast duck with light hoisin sauce served in a mooshi pancake. Tempura asparagus spears were covered in a very light batter and were superb. We had the sushi special of the night each time and all were excellent. The molten chocolate dessert, a sort of flourless cake served with coffee, chocolate chips, and fresh fruit, was exquisite. Twice we shared it, the last night there we each had one!
