The Vicious Circle Lobby Lounge at the Hotel Rex

Cocktails, appetizers and dinner entrees are served from 5 pm til 12 am here, but I was here for a dinner, held in the hotel's little banquet room, which included a hosted bar with appetizers served in this little lounge.

The appetizers were incredible! I could not stop eating this gouda/parmesan torte thing. I collected handful after handful of light water crackers in which to spread the cheese from my TWO slices of torte! I had never had anything like it and I didn't think I ever would again, so I didn't want to miss out. It was sooo good!

I enjoyed having the socializing portion of the dinner in this clubby little bar lounge. It's just there, straight past the front desk as you walk into this little boutique hotel that is the Hotel Rex.

Also, very cool, they had a computer set up, off to the side of the lounge, with internet access. A friend and I especially had fun with that.

Ready for the bad part? The staff was nice enough except for the bartend. She was just a witch - plain and simple.

I had asked to look at a book that was sitting upright on the bar (you can see it in the pictures) and she stopped me when I went to take it back to my table not 5 ft away! I explained where I was sitting, but she said I had to read it right there, at the bar, where it was.

It wasn't like, "oh I know it doesn't make sense, I'm just following the rules, I'm sorry ..." She was just plain bitchy and short where she didn't have to be. Choosing not to let this witch upset my evening any further, I could only just go back to my seat.

Sitting there with no closure to the upset caused by this anti-customer bartender, I told my friend not to tip her for the hosted glasses of wine we were getting, because her attitude didn't deserve it. But, my friend hadn't experienced the chill that I had, so she kept tipping as usual.

I was able to say I told you so later when my friend told me that the bartender had waited until her last drink to tell her that the hosted bar tab included tips.
