Description: O.k. so perhaps the title is a little misleading, because I'm sure you would be able to get better Turkish food in Turkey. However, in a little town like Scarborough I think this restaurant is the best you're going to find. It's a very small, intimate restaurant, perfect for a date or a romantic evening with your other half. I think they can seat a maximum of 34 people, so very tiny. It's also located a little off the beaten track, quite close to some guesthouses and not a long walk away from the beach. As you wander up Columbus Ravine, you'll just see a restaurant with lots of twinkly lights outside and then you've found it.
When we arrived, we were the only people in the restaurant so had our choice of tables (we went for one in the window). Our waiter was attentive and made sure we knew what he recommended from the menu. We ordered a mixed platter called a mezze (like a Greek mezze I suppose) to share for a starter. The food arrived and it was beautifully set out with a little bit of everything to try. The portion size was huge, I'm sure we could have shared this with another two people, but it was so nice that we ate it all ourselves. For our mains we shared each others dishes. I had a chicken, apricot and cashew nut Turkish stew, which was very light and a lovely blend of flavours. My partner had a lamb dish that was from the grill, I have to say I preferred my dish, but he seemed quite happy with his lamb, which just fell apart it was so tender.
We couldn't manage a pudding, but the table next to us ordered one and it looked equally delicious. Our waiter was very helpful throughout, helping us choose a wine that went really well with our meal, making sure we were happy all the way through dinner and leaving us to enjoy the delightful ambience. I think because the restaurant is so small everyone seems to talk in hushed tones and this creates a great romantic atmosphere.
All in all a wonderful little restaurant off the main drag in Scarborough, perfect for a romantic candle lit dinner!
