Tacuba had only been open for one month when our family had the pleasure of dining there. We were attracted to it at first by the modern decor and jazzy tunes. We were greeted by our hostess, Malena, who had invited us to dine there the night before as we walked along the Marina Boardwalk. I was glad we returned the next evening. And she was right, it is the best food in Cabo!
It is not your average Mexican restaurant in Cabo. In the menu they describe it as a blending of old and new Mexican cooking styles to create a New Baroque Mexican cuisine. As soon as you are seated they bring a triangular glass slab with chilled butter and a wire basket full of different breads. Our two teenage daughters ordered the Osso Bucco, tender and meaty lamb shanks with a ginger, cherry sauce, and carmelized whole baby onions. I had the Moon Scallops which were served on a slice of pink corn Mexican focaccia bread with a mixture of chard and onions in a sauce of something wonderful. I can't remember what my husband had, but I do remember that he ate it all with plenty of satisfied "Ummmmm"s.
They are supposed to have jazz nightly starting at 7:30pm, but we were there till 9 and no one showed up. I think that's just a Cabo thing: they get there when they get there.
We got out of the restaurant for a little over $130 for four of us, including tip and a shared dessert of a chocolate crepe filled with chocolate mousse and a side scoop of coffee ice cream and a dusting of cocoa. A night and meal we'll remember for a long time.
