Newly ...Read more This is THE favourite place among friends who visit and work in Beijing. My friend was so eager to introduce this place that she literally dragged me (and all her friends who visits her in Beijing) to the restaurant as soon as we touched down. Newly renovated, this restaurant used to be housed in a double storey building near Sanlitun. They have since moved to a newer and bigger premise in the current location.

I was worried that the new place would lose its charm as the previous location was small, yet cosy and quaint. Bing Chiu, who owns and manages the restaurant has managed to re-create the charming ambience here. The entrance was bright and inviting, the decor was Mediterranean with its blue and white contrasts; it evoked a cheerful and sunny feeling.

This restaurant is is a popular meeting place for Christians and non Christians alike. The food served is a mix of Hong Kong and SE Asian cuisine. Dishes like Claypot chicken in assorted herbs, assam fish, stir-fry vegetables with mushrooms and Thai-styled fried brinjals were a delight. My favourite were the Hong Kong styled desserts like steamed egg pudding, almond cream etc. All were priced affordably and the portions were generous.

At 8pm, Bing and his friend would pick up their guitars and start strumming. The songs were a mix of worship songs as well as Chinese pop music. Regular music enthusiasts would sometimes be invited to the "stage" to sing their favorite songs with Bing as accompaniment. The ambience would be lifted up with almost everyone would join in the singing spontaneously. The lyrics would be projected against a wall and Bing would regularly interact with everyone in the restaurant, eliciting responses and song requests.

My only grouse here is that although this is a non-smoking restaurant, this has not been strictly enforced by the staff. On the upside, the restaurant provides free wireless access to all patrons. Bing, a passionate Christian has created a wonderful place for outreach in the heart of Bejing, a meeting place among fellow Christians and friends to discuss and worship God without fear and restrictions. A must visit for all who loves God, music and good food.
