Panama Restaurant

Now I see why my dad loves this place. He kept saying go there the first day. It is a nice clean restaurant that is always packed. The locals eat here which is the best recommendation I can think of.

The pastries were better than we expected after reading about how they weren't as sweet as American pastries are. The only problem was figuring out what each one was. They all looked delicious and were made that morning. We tried what turned out to be a fruit-filled doughnut that looked like a Long John. I am not exactly sure what kind of fruit was in it, but it was excellent. Then there was the little roll that had vanilla pudding on top for icing and sat in a red paper cup. We ended up stopping here our last evening to get several for our trip home.

We never did get to try the regular menu items. It always seemed that we had just eaten somewhere else prior to walking past the Panama. I guess that is for us to experience next year.

The food here is gourmet Mexican and much more. Don't let the low prices fool you. The chefs in each of the eight locations have created a very diverse menu of attractive and delicious offerings.

The atmosphere is sparkling clean, relaxing, bright, and cheerful. Service is excellent. As far as the food goes, everything we tried there was fantastic.

In addition to all of the usual beverages, they create magnificent "coolers" by blending together fresh tropical fruit, milk, and ice (using purefied water).

Each restaurant has a bakery sales area featuring breads, rolls, pastries, pies, and beautiful cakes for every occasion, including weddings. The dessert cart that is rolled by your table often during your visit is one of life's sweetest temptations.

We ate at Panamas at the recommendation of our friend, who is a local. If you have a sweet tooth, you'll love their fabulous selection of amazing desserts. Be prepared, though, the Mexican version of cheesecake is not the same as the American version. It is less sweet and has a more creamy texture. I enjoyed it, but just don't expect a typical New York cheesecake flavor/texture. All of the desserts, breads, etc are baked fresh every day. They are also reasonably priced. Order up some dessert and take it back to your hotel for later, or have a cup of coffee with your dessert right there in the restaurant. Panamas is usually packed full of people, all day long, and it's about 60% locals and 40% tourists.

The breakfast is absolutely scrumptious! The plates are large with a lot of food. The breakfasts seem to be an American/Mexican combination. For instance, you can get an omelet that comes with chilequilles or scrambled eggs and ranch potatoes with napolitos (diced cactus) on the side. They have a very large selection of breakfast choices, so you will definitely be able to find something you like. Also, they display the food plates (with signs so that you know what they are on the menu) in the front entrance of the restaurant. Reminded me of Japan.

This place is inexpensive and the food is very good. It is a chain similar in style to Denny's, but with better overall quality. The menu offers a large variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. Not to be missed are the fruit smoothies. They have an extensive variety of baked goods made in their commisary in Viejo Mazatlan. These come around on a cart or you can get them to go. Overall, a great family place!

A great place for breakfast. Wonderful pastries! Also had dinner and lunch there several times. Great Mexican cuisine for any meal at very reasonable family prices.
