While visiting HHI my family and I went with our friends to Aunt Chilada's almost every night of the week because of the various choices on their menu. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to this Cafe.
My fiance and I are actually looking to have our rehearsal dinner there this August. Does that tell you anything about this wonderful place?

We have visited Hilton Head Island for over ten years and our traditional first meal has always been Aunt Chilada's. Before this last visit my experiences have been exceptional. The food is always very good as well as the service. This last visit was below average. We had a party of six including an eight month old child and the hostess refused to seat us at a round table stating that they hold these tables open, but gave no answer as to why. Our waitress was forgetful and lacked personality--case in point every table received chips and salsa, but we were required to ask. I also was unimpressed with the menu--the "staples" once enjoyed are no longer available. All in all the food was enjoyable, but the service was atrocious. We are now looking for a new restaurant to have our first meal.

After having been on HHI for a week we were craving Mexican food. Stopped into Aunt Chilada's and left having experienced a very disappointing dinner.
First, we agreed to a half hour wait with no issue, the bar is festive. When we were called for a table 20 minutes later, the hostess asked if we wanted a table in smoking to be seated right away. We said no, we'd wait for non. Less than 60 seconds later a gal came to seat us in non smoking, where there were more than 2 open tables. It appeared to us that they were not happy about giving a 4 top to a 2 person party.
Our server walked up to our table, never looked at us and just blurted out "what did we want to drink". I looked up and said "Oh, hello". She then realized her rudeness and said hi, but her service never improved.
She forgot our appetizer (chips and salsa), then blamed it on the kitchen being busy. She finally brought the chips and less than 2 minutes later (we had just put a 2nd chip into our mouths) the entrées came. The guy just stood there at our table waiting for us to move things out of his way so he could set down our plates.
I noticed we were not the only table to have a meal come while appetizers or soup were still being enjoyed. We had to ask for everything... napkins, utensils, plates, and were never asked if we wanted another drink.
The dining room is disheveled and messy, and all of the patrons dirty dishes are thrown into tubs in clear view and left to be taken away (which never happened in the hour we were there).
The food was serviceable, Mexican dishes but not what I would call authentic. I would search out another location on the island for dinner if you're looking for Mexican cuisine, and for that matter a friendly, attentive server.

Aunt Chilladas is located right next to Waterside. Some would say that the cuisine is Mexican, but this place has the best burgers on Hilton Head! And the French fries are excellent, as well.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. If you're looking to just have a cocktail there is a separate bar area.

Although Aunt Chiladas sounds like only a Mexican restaurant, it offers so much more. In addition to traditional Mexican dishes like enchiladas, fajitas, and burritos, they also offered seafood and Italian cuisine. In addition, they have a very extensive children's menu (including Mexican, Italian, and even crab legs!). The staff is very friendly, and the food is excellent. You also get a lot of food with your entree. The atmosphere is very family-friendly, and they have a smoking and non-smoking section.
