La Palapa
We found this little restaurant hidden behind our hotel, with a lovely view over the laguna. We later found out that this small restaurant is highly recommended by the locals - not many tourists know about it. As it is a small restaurant with approximately 10 to 15 tables, a reservation in high season is a must. We did find it very romantic, as it was secluded, with not many tourists. The staff was very friendly and the owner introduced himself on our first visit. This restaurant became our regular restaurant after having tried a few other restaurants in the central hotel zone, where everything is very Americanized with a lot of salty and fatty food. In La Palapa, the waiters are deserve a tip (when compared to other restaurants in Cancun, where they sometimes do not treat you very well and still expect enormous tips).
