Isla Contoy

Isla Contoy is located at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Resort. Isla Contoy is a casual Mexican cafe on the beach. It’s a popular place for lunch among resort guests, and I think that it is also open for an open-air dinner. For lunch, ask to sit at the railing - this enables you to gaze out at the beautiful beach and sea.

We only ate at Isla Contoy during lunch hours. The menu at lunchtime has quite an array of choices. For instance, there are a few ways to enjoy a seafood ceviche. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to taste the ceviche, but it looked excellent. It was served in a cocktail glass with fresh tomatoes, onions, and cilantro, along with your favorite seafood. This included shrimp, squid, crab, and fresh fish.

Before each meal, you get an array of fresh bread served at your table along with a basket of tortilla chips served with fresh pico de gallo. One other thing I thought added a nice touch at Isla Contoy were the ice buckets to keep your cerveza cold.

Let me tell you about what I ate for lunch the two times my wife and I dined at Isla Contoy. The first time I had beef fajitas (chicken available also). This was served on a hot cast-iron skillet with peppers and onions accompanied by fresh guacamole, refried beans, just-made pico de gallo, and eight tortillas. The meat was tender and the condiments were great. An excellent light lunch, so you can get right back to the beach or pool.

On our second visit to Isla Contoy, I had the pan-fried grouper served on a roll with tartar sauce. The grouper was flaky and tasty, but I thought the bread could have been better. This was served with your choice of fries, onion rings, or a couple of other sides.

La Isla was a perfect place to enjoy a comfortable lunch. You can go and have a couple of beers or a margarita and take in the views. This might be a stretch if you are staying in another resort, but ideal for a Coral Beach guest.
