Carlos & Charlies

Carlos and Charlie’s restaurant is more of a night out than a regular restaurant. It’s also not for the faint-hearted or shy. During dinner, they will pull you out of your seat, whether you want to or not, and whisk you away to dance with the waiters. They do mock shows that sometimes get a little out of hand. The best one we saw was about a ‘fire’ started in the kitchen, and so the waiter started chasing the chef around the restaurant with a meat cleaver. They jumped over our table and smashed into the table next to us (I think this part was accidental, as they knocked it over, with all the drinks). Many times they ran into people, and once, knocked someone off their chair (again, this was an accident). They just get so into the comedy and running that they forget where they are. It was funny and a great time if you know what to expect.

The food is actually very good, with plenty of Mexican and Tex-Mex items. It’s not too expensive and the portions are huge, so you can easily make do with an appetizer as your main course. The drinks are great, with different cocktails and yards of beer or anything else you might want in that yard glass.

As the night goes on, the tables are slowly cleared out of the way and this becomes a full-blown club with party music and everyone dancing on the tables, bars, and chairs. They arrange games and dancing contests, honing in on singles. Its open until 2am, but they don’t hurry to throw you out.

The shot girls constantly make the rounds trying to sell you a shot of tequila for 25 pesos. They will pour it in your mouth and then shake your head around whilst blowing on a whistle. All in all, it’s a fun place and a great restaurant/bar to start your night of debauchery, as it’s situated right on the hotel drag, close to all the major clubs.

Now if you want a real adventure go to Carlos and Charlies. They have moved to the Forum area right in the center of it all next to the Hardrock. Get there around 7pm.

There is a standing bike that you peddle as soon as you go in. If you reach a certain area you get a free dinner. Don't try this as the chain is off.

When you first sit down the waiters come over and only speak Mexican. The only two words they know are "Tequila" and "Faihtas." Sure enough they keep on bringing you bags of Faihtas and a few shots of Tequila.

As for the atmosphere, it is like a show there. First they had a wrestling match with Batman and Superman. Then a fire extigusher went off. Free shots of Tequila and then came the barbers chair. You sat in this and they put an Ice filled funnel in your mouth and poured flaming hot Kaluha and Tequila mix in it. It looked cool as it went down since it was with a blue flame. It also looked hot but was quickly cooled from the ice. The audience cheers you on to try to finsh all that is in the metal container. Some did it some could not.

The waiters are all in sinc with each other as they get a long stick and touch a woman's leg and the turn their heads and point as they throw a fake rat across the floor.

Next came a glass Flask that had a blue mixed drink. It poured out a fine stream. There was about a quart of whatever was in there. Once again I was put to the test. I finished it in one shot and received a standing ovation.

I became so friendly with the staff that I was givin a napkin from the Mgr that allowed me to drink at the bar for free. I could not really take full advantage of his offer since by this time I was already singing. But I tried.

All of the Funnel and Flask drinks were free. I had a ball here and recommend it to all.

Carlos & Charlie's is a Mexican restaurant chain and a fun place. It doesn't matter which location you visit -- you still get good food and have a great time. The tablecloths are made of brown paper. The music is rockin' and the waiters sometimes come over and sing along and play air guitar!

My husband and I had Cilantro Queso, which turned out to be Mexican mozzarella sticks. If you are very hungry, you will need to order more food. My parents had a chicken entree (as usual) and they loved it. There is a DJ and a dance floor, and he took requests from the customers who seemed to love disco. The dance floor was hopping and everyone had a great time. When the waiter asks if you would like to see the dessert menu, they stamp the brown paper tablecloth with the menu items! When they bring you the bill, they accompany it with complimentary Sombrero cocktails in cordial glasses. We were so surprised and the Sombreros were delicious.

The bill only came out to $40 for the four of us, although we didn't order appetizers or dessert, so consider that. My parents loved this place also.

We stood on chairs and did the "chicken dance", and watched waiters help customers toss down a shot or two.

The food was moderate to good, and the waitstaff was friendly and fun. They kept our drinks flowing while awaiting dinner.

Very mediocre food and entertainment. I had the catch of the day, but it tasted like it was frozen fish. They also kept pushing drinks and seemed annoyed that we only ordered bottled water. They then tried to push desserts and we declined. Would not return.
