Captain's Cove

Well, here's your 'going out and just have some food fun' kinda place. Or if you prefer to be more subtle and enjoy a relaxed dinner with your loved one, you can do that too!

The welcoming is pleasant and enjoyable. It's by the lake and if you're lucky, you can meet the restaurant's long time friend Mr. Alligator, who seems to enjoy leftovers from guests. He has yet to complain about the food and service there. Don't worry, the restaurant is elevated and Mr. Alligator is a harmless friend, so they say.

This place never disappoints me. My wife and I have been going there for three years and nothing's changed. . .except for the better! They are located across the street from the Royal Mayan and Royal Caribbean in the Hotel Zone.

Of course I had to have my lobster with shrimp and my wife had a variety of cooked shrimp dish. If you like the chocolate banana taste, you have to try their Monkey Banana drink--awesome! My wife had a mango drink which was very refreshing.

What's even more refreshing is the discount we always get because of our membership with Royal Resorts!

Friendly and pleasant environment, and if you go just before sunset, well, I don't hold myself responsible for what could happen that night.

Only one thing this year. It seemed like we had to wait awhile for our check. Maybe it was because we were tired and needed to get ready for our flight the next day. But you go to Cancun to relax, I guess we just didn't want to leave.

Great place to see the sunset on the hotel strip. There's a very lovely patio on the beach with great service and extremely efficient and attentive waiters. One of them showed us some magic tricks! The shrimp and lobster dishes were outstanding, and the banana flambe was scrumptious.

This a great place to eat. When you walk in you see a great big hand-made wooden ship that shows all varieties of fish that you can sample; it's very decorative and it adds that little bit extra to the look of the restaurant. We went at about 7:00pm and we didn't have to book a table, although it did get very busy around 8pm so maybe it would be better to book.

The tables were dressed with yellow and red table clothes to give that Mexican feel. You can sit at a table overlooking the lagoon if you wish, that adds the romantic touch if there is just the 2 of you.

The food that Captain's Cove has to offer is mainly seafood, but they do serve fajitas and other Mexican dishes too. The waiters are very friendly and make sure that your dining experience with is a memorable one.

We have been several times, but I think it's typical of the restaurants on the Seven--the food is fine, but you're not going to get the authentic feel of real Mexican cuisine. However, I think it's comparatively priced to most restaurants there and has quite the ambience, since the seating is on the water. Sometimes you can see a shark in the water near the restaurant; the waiters will point them out, if you ask.

We thought their best food was the Sopa de Lima (Lime Soup). Angela tried the lime soup at several restaurants and gave the lime soup at Captain's Cove her highest rating

My mom thought the chicken fajitas were overpriced because there was very little chicken in the fajitas--just onions and peppers.

Captain's Cove is a Caribbean waterfront dining experience with a relaxed atmosphere. I must tell one of the reasons we went (besides the fact that the Cove has been voted Best Restaurant for 2 years.) We moor our schooner sailing vessel at "Captain's Cove" Marina at Lake Ray Hubbard just out of Dallas TX. Now back to critiquing the restaurant.

You can enjoy a varied smorgasbord of flavor with its large variety of dishes from the exotic to traditional. Without a doubt, your palate will be pleased with its shrimp 'n coconut, lobster, and unbelievable Caribbean specialities like swordfish, shrimp trio and a Tikin-Xic (usually grouper grilled marinated in achiote spice). The flavor, seasoning, and portions will satify your appetite.
