Great Spot for Casual Dining

Mimi's is one of our favorite "stand-bys". Always fresh, delicious foods, and always outstanding service, you really can't go wrong. You may want to try the small portions of many items unless you are a really hearty eater! Their fresh breads and muffins are to die for. Excellent spot for a Sunday brunch (just be prepared to possibly wait for a table, apparently a LOT of other people think Mimi's is a great spot for Sunday brunch, too).

Mimi's

No reservations needed but for major holidays. Updated menu and decore with a greater emphasis on opportunities to have Atkins type food items as well as the high calorie old favorites. This restaurant is extremely popular after church and on major shopping Saturdays. Located in a shopping center on Bryant-Irvin Road (you can see it from I-20), it is easier to find if you look for the Lowe's and the CompUSA.

We nearly always choose the Chinese chicken salad, petite size order for me and the heavy duty turkey dinner with French onion soup for husband. With one glass of wine but no dessert the tab comes to about $27 for the 2 of us. The salad comes with a choice of muffin (usually blueberry, carrot and honey bran) and the dinner comes with a basket of hard rolls and sliced date nut bread. So much bread that we always take some home.

The soups are excellent, but for me it is always a matter of making a choice as the potions are very large. Soup and 1/2 salad is an alternative for me. I can't get around one of the dinners. Really man-sized portions.

Rumor is that the dessert are very good, but we will have to have dessert first in order to try them. Too much food!

Very good family choice of a restaurant.

This full service restaurant is extremely busy which comes as a surprise to local restaurant reviewers who predicted that it could not hold out against local competition. Boy were they wrong! The atmosphere is in a style said to be French Country but who really cares if the food is good? The portions are so large we have never gotten to desserts and have decided the only way to do that is to order dessert first and work backwards. I love the meal-size salads, but order a 1/2 portion. ($7.50 for full size, $6.25 half size.) Served with a huge muffin, this is more than enough. An entre, such as Rock Shrimp Stir Fry ($9.95) has so much served with it (soup, bread basket) that it's mandatory to take most of the main dish home with you. Why don't they just bring out the 'doggie bags' with the entree? Less than $10 for most entrees, desserts, fancy coffees, other drinks, wine and beer extra. The wine prices are reasonable at around $5 for a large glass. Beer $3 to $3.50. Children's menu has a few child size offerings and comes with crayons and a page to color.

If you see that the parking lot is full, don't give up hope as this is a large restaurant. Click here for Mimi's Cafe!
