Chinatown Express Restaurant

Chinatown Express Restaurant makes their own noodles, with a large display window into the street. The color on the Chinese barbecue pork looks bad, very artificial. The wonton soup was very poor quality - double wrapped and overcooked skins swelled with a very tiny bit of meat inside. The leafy greens with garlic sauce was very good, and so was the steamed African fish. The name Express isn't true for what we ordered. The atmosphere is fluorescent lights, Formica-type tables. Plastic-wrapped fortune cookies are presented along with the bill. The proprietor came out after me, stating that the wonton was American-style and next time he'd fix it up Hong Kong-style.

Washington's China Town should really be called China Street. The restaurants along H Street between 7th Street and 5th Street are all that make up China Town. I work near China Town and have eaten at almost all of the restaurants. None of them are that fantastic, though most have adequate food and service. Go-Los on the right coming from 7th Street has never disappointed me. Taishan, the second restaurant on the right coming from 7th Street, is one of the more authentic places and is patronized mostly by Chinese. I've never had a bad meal there either.
