We popped into this Italian restaurant to get out of the cold. We had set out from our hotel (which was down the street) and the temperature had dropped significantly and wind had picked up speed since we’d been out in the afternoon. When was passed the Casa di David, it looked full so we walked in asked if they could feed us. It was Saturday night and the place was jumping. They had us stand and wait in a couple of spots in the restaurant while they got a table (probably 15 minutes) and they seated us at a great table next to the window overlooking the canal on the second floor. It was a table for two in the corner and it was a great spot. The wait staff was hurried but friendly, and in no time we were eating an appetizer and drinking the house red wine, comfortable and delighted with the food. I had an appetizer that was roasted eggplant, lots of cheese, lots of basil and tomato. It was fabulous. I ordered the gnocchi for the entree and that was far too much food. The gnocchi dish was very rich and covered in cheese. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had ordered it alone. The house red wine (chianti?) was fine for the price.
We enjoyed it so much and it was so convenient that we went back the next night. We split a salad which was excellent and had simpler pasta dishes with the same wine. On our second visit, we were seated on the first floor at a table for four, which we shared with other people. Although it was crowded, the price and the quality of the food was worth the sacrifice of privacy. The other dish that looked excellent was pizza. The bread was also very good.
I would dine here again.
