Boma was the favorite restaurant of our entire family- ages 5 to 44. The food was great, with lots and lots of choices. It was fun to try so many new dishes. Service was great as well. We will definitely eat here again next trip!

Not As Good As We Thought, Different Food

My family went to Boma a few weeks ago, expecting it to be unbelievable because of what we had heard. I must admit that the service and atmosphere were excellent, as with just about everything else Disney. The food was the only issue - though Boma is very authentically African, if there are picky eaters in your family, as there are in mine, it is definitely not worth it.
So if you plan on going to Boma, be prepared to try a lot of new foods that your taste buds probably aren't accustomed to.

Boma - Flavors of Africa is a restaurant like no other, so don't let the buffet fool you.

Located in the gorgeous Animal Kingdom Lodge, Boma is decorated by a thatched roof, warm lighting, and vibrant ceiling tapestries. The decor is as colorful, as the various African tastes that beckon you to sample them.

Our VERY knowledgeable dinner server, Maureen, was able to describe the various food options in great detail. When asked about the large selection of African wines, and she suggested I order a "wine flight." Not being an expert on libations, she explained that this would include 3-ounce pours from three various wines. I ordered the "red wine flight," which was only $9 and added up to about 1.5 glasses. The glasses came on a placemat that described their various origins and tastes. All three were quite good, but I really enjoyed the very mild Brampton.

Finally, we were off to attack the buffet. Our goal was to try a bit of EVERYTHING. My taste sensory was truly on overload. Some of the food did have very strong flavors (watch out for the cilantro chili salad dressing! Peanut rice?). I love trying new things, so this was a great experience for me. There are some "neutral" options for those (understandably) less daring (i.e. salmon, rotisserie chicken, and prime rib). There is also a kid’s menu consisting of pasta and meatballs, fries, and chicken strips.

The dessert options are truly out of this world. There was a very large selection. A great thing was that the desserts were in small portions, which maximizes your ability to try as many different ones as possible! The Zebra Domes are the standout favorite, but I don't want to give to much away.

If you enjoy distinct tastes and trying new things, you will love this restaurant, and the price is right.

On a recent trip (January 2005), we took our friends along with us. There were four adults and one 3-year-old. Everyone raved about the food. It's one of my favorite restaurants. Reservations are recommended. It is buffet-style. The soups are delicious. There are several types of meats at the carving station, along with many salads, hummus, breads, side dishes. Desserts are small--the perfect size for trying several of the desserts. They have a kids buffet--chicken fingers, mac and cheese, french fries--but they can eat from the regular buffet as well. Arrive early and walk out the back of the resort to see the animals on the savannah.

The food was authentic African cuisine served buffet style, but not the "been sitting in the warmer for hours" type. The portions they put out are very small and the restaurant is large, so the popular items usually have people emptying the trays as fast as the staff can bring them. They also have slow roasted prime rib every evening that you can smell from the lobby from about 10am throughout the day. The desserts are spectacular. There is something for everyone here.

The wait staff is extremely helpful, funny, and accommodating. They joke around with the patrons from beginning to end. They are knowledgeable about the origins of the food, the ingredients, how food is prepared, and have a good grasp on the wine list. You never wait for a drink refill or have to ask for anything. They anticipate your needs and make sure you have the best dining experience possible. I cannot say enough good things about the staff or the food.
