Reservations aren't necessary, but if you don't make them, you could be waiting for over an hour if it's a busy night. The restaurant's decor is bright and energetic, with a cool South of the Border flair. Outside seating is an option during the spring/summer months. Generally, the servers are attentive and courteous.

The menu has a variety of options. If you want a great deal, order the southwestern Caesar salad with salmon. I ordered this one time expecting a few chunks of salmon mostly obscured by lettuce, but I got a full-on filet of grilled salmon on top of a bed of Caesar-covered romaine. To top it all off, the salad was bright with yellow corn, and it had an undeniably unique but understated southwestern flavor. Yum. Best of all, it's only $8 without tax.

Austin also has all the regular Mexican dishes: fajitas, tacos, etc., with beef, chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese, pinto beans... you get the picture. Nothing on the menu is outrageously expensive, but it's all good. Austin Grill is a place where you know you can get a pretty good meal. It's good for families, too. It’s not exactly the top of my list as far as dining goes, but it's good for a Thursday night in the summer when you're looking for a place to go.

My friends and I have this odd addiction to Austin Grill's tex mex food. It's not fancy, but for whatever reason, we love it and go there all the time. The free chips and salsa (two kinds) are addictive. We like the weird taquitos too - the secret ingredient that holds them together and makes them taste so good? Mashed potatoes.

Great fajitas, skirt steak, salads, etc. Margaritas are super-popular.

Brunch isn't half-bad... although it's strange eating chips and salsa, with a hangover, at 10 am, isn't it?

Friendly young staff.

Austin Grill has a couple DC locations. The one in the newly thriving area around the MCI Center and one in upper Georgetown at 2404 Wisconsin Ave., NW. Both serve up some tasty fajitas and other tex mex favorites. The frozen margaritas are fabulous. Try a red white and blue - appropriate for Washington DC and is a striped with blue raspberry, lime and strawberry frozen margarita. It is a fun, friendly atmosphere at the bar, a good place to go with friends.
