Downtown Aquarium

This restaurant has an awesome atmosphere. Every detail has been thought out, including the seahorse salt-and-pepper shakers. The staff is friendly and helpful. The main tank is in the center of the restaurant, and all of the tables are set around this tank!

The food here was a little lackluster! My fiance doesn't like seafood, so there were about two main dishes he could choose from! We had eaten a late breakfast before we went to the aquarium and this restaurant, so we decided to order appetizers and dessert. I ordered the shrimp cocktail (five shrimp for $10.99). It was horrible. The shrimp were huge but didn't have good texture or taste. It was great to see such big shrimp, but I was disappointed by the taste! My fiance ordered fried onions, pickles, and jalapenos. There was so much food, you should have ordered this for a table of ten. We barely ate any of it because there was just too much!!! For dessert we ordered the white brownie! It was delicious, but it should be shared by more than one person, as the portion is enormous.

I am not sure if I would ever eat at this restaurant again, but the atmosphere of this place is unbeatable!

The Downtown Aquarium is separated into four dining areas. We ate at the Marina Matinee Cafe. The dining area is set up to look like you are sitting in boats. Only two people per "boat" seat. If you are more than 30 pounds overweight, it may be a tight squeeze (there is seating in regular half circle seats that offer more space.

You walk on planks with blue lighting underneath to give the impression of walking on a dock. The atmosphere was very kid friendly. All seats face the three large screens, which show trailers from sea themed movies such as Jaws, Blue Lagoon, and Elvis Presley's Clambake. This is a good distraction while waiting for your food. On the day we were there, a child's party was scheduled and it was noisy, so it was hard to hear.

We started off with a Tiki Island Tease smoothie ($4.25). It was delicious and a lot cheaper than the drinks (beer was $3.50, $8 for a specialty drink). I had the grilled jerk chicken breast ($11.99). It came with two chicken breasts, rice, and a cole slaw type salad. The chicken was a little dry and lacked flavor. The salad was overpowered by the cilantro in it. My wife had the Ocean's 11 Fish and Chips ($11.99). Four large, deep fried pieces of cod and curly fries. She took the batter off because it was too greasy and the cod was a little too fishy tasting. The fries were great.

Overall this was a fun dining experience despite the below average food. The entrees could have easily been shared by two.
