This is a must visit restaurant every time I go to Charleston to visit my son. The food is great, but the atmosphere is the best. We had a table by the window and watched three dolphins play while we ate. It is usually crowded at the main dining time, so plan to be there a little ahead of the usual time. Bon appetit!

A trip to Charleston would not be complete without a trip to California Dreaming. It is in a beautiful setting right on the Ashley River. Windows surround the river side of the building for a gorgeous view of the harbor. It is especially lovely at night. The food is exceptional and moderately priced. I have had appetizers and main entrees but never have room left for dessert. The "California Dreaming" salad is one of a kind. Portions are sometimes sufficient for two.

We were a group of 21 and called ahead about an hour before arrival. We were told to call back 30 minutes before we arrived, but just wait until we got there to "wait it out". We only waited 45-50 minutes for seating for our large group.

Coming from downtown Charleston the restaurant is not too diffcult to find. However, if you are coming from south of Charleston it is a little more difficult. It is best to get directions instead of just driving around and trying to find it. We used Yahoo Travel to print out directions.

I have gone back year after year. The salad is great, the view is spectacular, and the entrees are always great. Service has been some of the best I've had all over the world. Steak has to be my favorite of all. If you make it to dessert, go for it -- you can't go wrong.

This restaurant is located on the waterfront (Ashley River) and has fantastic views from the tall glass windows. The food is excellent, especially the California Dreaming salad, and isn't too expensive. The tall ceilings and wooden tables create the perfect lunch or dinner atmosphere, not stilted and not too country either. If you've never been to a California Dreaming before, this one is the one to visit because of the view.

You may want to ask for directions, because the location is a little bit confusing, and the signs are small.
