How refreshing to come back and find TWO new dining venues. I seem to recall dining at The Gazebo many years ago when my mom was living here. Back then, however, I thought we had been there for supper so now I’m not sure because today they are only open for breakfast and lunch (open through 2:00p).

With Cindy needing to get back to South Carolina, Pam and I decided to stop for breakfast before heading to the airport in Richmond. Admittedly, I am partial to a couple of places in Williamsburg but this was a pleasant dining experience.

Arriving shortly after 10:00am on a Sunday could have been a dicey proposition. In the past when David and I have sought out a quick breakfast on our way out of town, we’ve often been left to do McDonald’s drive through for an Egg McMuffin. On this day, however, we were immediately seated in the half-capacity filled dining area.

It was very bright with lots of natural sunlight through the large front windows. It actually felt like we were sitting outside in a gazebo, sans the heat, humidity and mosquitoes! Our server was right with us for beverages and to take our orders.

Pam order a standard two-eggs breakfast with sausage and choice of grits (yes, we are in the south) or home fried potatoes and a homemade biscuit. I chose the buttermilk pancakes (stack of three) and the Virginia country ham. Mmmmm another food item I miss back home in Milwaukee. The pancakes were very good but I must say not as good as David’s back home. These were very thin, not particularly fluffy and while two were decent sized, the third was buried at the bottom of the stack practically invisible because it was half the size of the other two. What the pancakes lacked, however, the ham made up for. At $4.95 for the side order, I felt the price was steep when I made my decision but it was a ample portion making it a little less insulting.

Both Pam and I enjoyed our breakfast and perhaps more importantly, the time spent on our last meal of our too short weekend. When I come back to Virginia and the Williamsburg area, I’m sure David and I will add this to our list of dining spots especially since it is less than a mile from our timeshare resort there.

My guess is that the economy is still hurting tourism and the fact that the restaurant was not very busy for a Sunday morning would support that assumption. I also feel that with as many people as those who timeshare vacation in Williamsburg, they are probably more people sensitive to dining out costs and they are making the most use of their kitchens.

Prices were about average overall for breakfast; roughly $20 for two including tip to our server. The menu was decent and the food good.

Pancake places are everywhere in Williamsburg, but this one was recommended by a student and was very good. It is located close to the resort at Kingsgate, too.

We had an exceptional breakfast here. We actually split the Plantation Breakfast, which was enough of everything for two people. It included bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, potatoes, and pancakes, and was absolutely delicious.
