Overland Cafe

The Overland cafe is a surprising little find in a bustling Palms neighborhood. Located just north of Venice Blvd. on a busy strip of Overland that has been under construction for over a year, the Overland Cafe seems to have no trouble retaining its faithful local customers. There is parking behind the restaurant and plenty of street parking on Charnock.

The Overland Cafe serves its delicious breakfast fare all day, though breakfast specials are only served till 11am. Don't miss the fabulously rich Eggs Benedict, which can be ordered with scrumptious Norwegian smoked salmon. Especially popular is the weekend Champagne Brunch--unlimited champagne for just $2.99 with the purchase of a brunch entree, up till 3pm. Or order a mimosa with your eggs and sausage (meat or vegetarian) and be transported back to the old South!

The Overland Cafe is certainly not limited to its breakfast fare, however. The lunch/dinner menu is full-featured with a wide range of choices for vegetarians and carnivores alike, drawing on several ethnicities to create a truly American menu. For starters, try the Caprese or steamed clams in wine sauce. The seven salad choices are all made with fresh greens and plenty of veggies--not at all the iceberg lettuce disasters I've found in many cafe-style restaurants. The reasonably priced entrees include everything from pasta to Jamaican chicken to eggplant parmigiana-- I've not yet found a dish I disliked. For lunch, try a sandwich or sub toasted just right on homemade bread.

Service at the Overland Cafe is friendly and prompt. Local regulars are rewarded with wait staff that remembers their names and favorite dishes. Weekend brunchtime can be a bit rowdy, as many families with small children frequent the cafe, but the tables are spaced well and the surroundings pleasant. All in all, highly recommended!
