I had a wonderful blackened prime rib dinner with a baked yam instead of a potato that had brown sugar butter... it tasted out of this world. We got in without a reservation after one of the Krewe parades, even though it was late (about 11pm) and very crowded. We didn't have to wait too long, either, maybe 20 minutes.

Copeland's is a local landmark. We went to the one on St Charles Street and were able to take the trolly to it's front door. The food is New Orleans cajun and creole and I had one of the best Crawfish etouffee's that I have ever eaten. The corn bread was excellent and I would recommend that you ask for a table outside (weather permitting). Service was very good and professional but the food took a little while to get there. All in all we had such a good time that we went back for our last meal in the city. Treat yourseves to this very good restaurant.

Imagine a soulful TGI Friday's where the food is actually good. All right, I know that's a tough one. But this is Copeland's--a local favorite and a great pick if you're going to see a show at Tipitina's uptown. The crawfish bread appetizer is a rich, bubbly delight that you had better share or else you could be done before you've ever started. There is an emphasis on butter and grease in this place that's almost frightening--and unless you have a large capacity for it, be careful. The stuffed Cajun fish comes served with a golfball of butter on top. You may want to share an entree and just get a salad to start. I didn't get the steak but I saw some pretty amazing looking cuts getting delivered to nearby tables.

There are some interesting and tastey menu items at Copeland's, from shrimp stuffed with crab stuffing to spicy duck. There are several locations, although the St. Charles' restaurant has a nice view of the passing street cars and is by far my favorite. Go early to avoid a wait, although later in the evening they offer valet parking, a plus since all of their parking is on the streets in the surrounding neighborhoods.
