Margaritaville

Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Cafe is quite a colourful joint with a very definite island vibe. Local artists perform live music in their Storyville Tavern. Music is free in the Tavern from 3pm to midnight. The food and drinks are great. The drinks have compasses in them so you can find your way home after you have had a few of them. See their website for more info at http://www.margaritaville.com/neworleans/.

We went to happy hour every night at Margaritaville and sat in the tire swing bar, sipping frozen margaritas and munching on conch fritters and other appetizers. We ate dinner there twice, and had great meals both times. If you're a parrothead, you'll love it. If you're not you'll still appreciate the friendly atmosphere, tropical colors, and laid-back atmosphere. There's a gift shop adjacent to the restaurant that's a must do for parrotheads too.

There were bars in NOLA I would be uncomfortable in, but this place was as family-oriented as you will find in the French Quarter. On occasion, Jimmy strolls in off the street and has a drink or sings with the musician who is performing, but we weren't lucky enough to see him there. If you don't want to spend your money there, at least check out the decor!

This restaurant is set up with a bar on one side and dining on the other. It is decorated for the bar scene with tables strewn here and there. The food is acceptable, but the atmosphere is there for someone who doesn't want to pay attention. The service from your wait person seemed like a bother to them, and you are only a time-crunch customer in their way.

The food is a mixture of Mexican and American and doesn't really cater to the local foods very much. The portions are acceptable, but if you want another drink or your check and haven't a lot of time, it is not suggested you venture into this restaurant. The live band located in the bar side can be heard, but is not of the quality you would expect with the location of this restaurant in the French Quarter. The TV screen plays a snipet of the Mardi Gras scene over and over and over.

Margaritaville

Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville is a fun and entertaining place to eat and listen to live music. Decorated in a Carribean flare with plenty of Jimmy Buffet paraphenalia and collectibles on display. And for those of you still looking for your 'lost shaker of salt' as the song goes, the 'chandeliers' are made from margarita glasses and dangling salt shakers. The food was not fine dining but was still tasty and the restaurant made up for it in atmosphere. I would personally recommend the Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich. There is also a gift/souvenier shops next door where you can purchase T-shirts, etc.
