Sweet, Sweet Beignets: Cafe du Monde

What can I possibly write that has not been written already? If you are in New Orleans you absolutely must get up early and walk over to the french market for breakfast at Cafe DuMonde--the beignets and coffee are sinfully delicious.

Hint--take a carriage ride at Jackson Square afterwards; you will not be disappointed.

Best beignets in New Orleans! You can't beat Cafe du Monde for value and atmosphere. The place is open 24/7 and the customers can get interesting late at night. The menu is basic -- beignets, coffee, tea, milk, and juice. The iced coffee is great, too, if you need a caffeine pick-me-up and can't stand the idea of heading to Starbucks. It's a great place to kick up your feet after walking all around the Quarter and watch the city go by.

The Cafe Du Monde

The Cafe Du Monde is the favorite gathering, people-watching, tourist spot in New Orleans. Be entertained by balloon artists and street musicians while you sip your coffee and eat beignets, a favorite French breakfast pastry.

The menu is limited and the indoor/outdoor seating is "first-come, grab-a-table". It can get very crowded, but the turnover is swift. One order of beignets includes three fresh, hot pastries covered in a mound of powdered sugar. They melt in your mouth! We went there twice. Be careful, the cafe au lait is very HOT!

We sat at a corner table near Jackson Square sampling the freshly-made sweet beignets and sipping cafe au lait on Sunday morning before attending mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral. There's no better way to start a gorgeous sunny morning in the French Quarter.

This is an open air cafe where the menu consists of beignets (French doughnuts dipped in powder sugar) and cafe au lait (excellent coffee). This is a great place to rest while overlooking Jackson Square with all the artists, mimes, and horsedrawn carriage rides.
