Cafe Au Lait & Beignets!

Cafe Au Lait & Beignets!

Donuts and coffee, really, what more do you want? Oops I mean Cafe Au Lait & Beignets! This laid-back, large outdoor seating Cafe is a must on your trip to New Orleans.

Cafe Du Monde's original outpost consists of waitstaff in cute white traditional diner style hats, dozens of outdoor tables (covered in a tent during our November visit) and a cozy indoor space. The price was right for two people, with two cafe au laits and a plate of beignets at only $6.

For those not in the know, "au lait" means half coffee and half milk. They also serve it dark, along with milk and chocolate milk and freshly squeezed orange juice. The menu is written on the wall - or you can order inside and take out.

Grab a few friends and sit down for fabulous mini donuts covered with powdered sugar. Do not bring your diabetic friends here! The powdered sugar overflows from the beignets, and sugar is provided on the table to douse your coffee with also.

There are additional shops including one in the Riverwalk. I walked by the one in the Riverwalk - it is in an unexciting basement area. Certainly stop by the original late one evening to people watch and enjoy a snack!

Visit them online at cafedumonde.com or 24 hours a day in the French Market. Yep, 24 hours a day except Christmas day!

This is the place for the best coffee and beignets. The cafe au lait is their most popular coffee. It's coffee and steamed milk. The beignets are French donuts. They are hot and fresh at Cafe du Monde. Thinking about them is making me salivate right now. You can sit outside and admire the area while you sip your coffee and eat your donuts. Be careful though; powdered sugar is everywhere!

After many requests for us to try begniets, we had to make a stop at one of the Cafe du Monde restaurants in the French quarter. The one we visited was in the riverwalk in the food court. It was situated so its seating had a good view of the Mississippi, so we got some good sights in, too.

We got begniets, which are essentially doughnuts, covered with powdered sugar. And believe me, they were DELICIOUS!

they even had pastry mix that you could buy to bring home to make your own begniets. I should have gotten some, now I regret that I didn't!

The workers were really nice and it was an enjoyable stop in a busy day. It might sound funny, but sometimes I have the strongest craving for this very treat!!

This was a very quaint little coffee shop, and from what I understand this popular New Orleans landmark has been located in the French Market since the early 1860s. It was a wonderful start to our day of just walking around the French Quarter and soaking up the sights, smells, and sounds of New Orleans. Our waiter was a local creole gentleman, who was very kind and just the kind of person you would want to wait on you in a local bistro. He was fantastic.

Beignets (square donuts coated with powdered sugar) and a cup of coffee are about the best breakfast food to have when you are in New Orleans. This is a very casual place, and it caters to everyone. The service can be a bit slow, but you will forget about that when you sink your teeth into a warm, doughy beignet.
