Wo Hop is a must for people visiting the Big Apple from out of town. The place is practically a landmark! Don't expect anything special when you walk up Mott Street to the restaurant. All you will find is a staircase leading down and people lined up on it all the way out into the street.

How it works - You get in line and eventually get the chance to let the waiters know how many in your party. The place is tiny so you won't even make it inside to wait. A waiter will pop a head out the door and yell a number if you have that many in your party and are nearest to the bottom of the steps you are in.

The food is so cheap. You can order a zillion dishes and when the check comes be shocked at how little it cost. Try the cold sesame noodles, beef with snow peas over noodles, and sweet and pungent chicken. All are delicious.

This isn't a place to linger... the decor consists of mirrors and signed head shots of people no one knows. Even if you had what to look at you still couldn't linger. You can't help but feel bad as you watch the people waiting outside... noses pressed against the window waiting for your table.

I wouldn't recommend driving, you will be stuck in China town traffic and lucky if you find a spot 6 blocks away. If you are visiting the city take a cab or the subway to Canal and walk up Mott.

This is a fun place for kids, they can keep their elbows on the table all they want! I go to Wo Hop about once a month with my entire family and it's worth the drive from the outer boroughs, worth the looking for parking, and worth the line outside. A must go in my book.

If you want to eat Chinese food where the Chinese people eat, check out Wo Hop. It's nothing fancy, but it has good, good food! Go downstairs and be warned, the portions are quite large.

Lunchtime at Wo Hop is a busy place. Not to be confused with the restaurant of the same name at 15 Mott Street, this one is downstairs. The dining area is small with a few booths and several tables for 4-6 persons. Established in 1938, Wo Hop had a steady stream of customers, including some of NY's Finest, for eat-in and take-out orders.

The extensive menu encompasses the usual Chinese dishes. They're famous for wonton soup, chow fun and noodle dishes. The eggrolls were the best I've ever tasted. Steamed dumplings make a great appetizer, also can be ordered fried. Entrees are reasonably priced, portions most generous. Rice is not included - steamed or fried rice must be ordered separately.
Hot tea and water are served in glasses.

I highly recommend Wo Hop for its great food, reasonable price, and swift service. You won't find it in the tourist brochure about Chinatown. I'm a returning customer and it's definitely worth seeking out.

If you are looking for an excellent spot in Chinatown for great food at a great price, go where the locals go! Try Wo Hop, on Mott Street. It is a basement restaurant that can have a bit of a line at peak times, but try to beat the rush by going early or late. The won ton soup is worth flying to New York City to taste! The steamed dumplings are great, and we enjoyed our pork and chicken dishes too.

This is really authentic food at give away prices! We never go to New York City without going to Wo Hop!
