Ron of Japan specializes in steak, shrimp, chicken, lobster prepared in the Japanese teppanyaki style. Meat and vegetables are cut, seasoned and served up by chefs who dish up a bit of a show for diners. Watch out for flaming shrimp tails, flying eggs and knives. The full dinners include soup, salad with a fabulous ginger dressing, shrimp appetizer, rice, vegetables and the meat or combo of your choice. I like the sukiyaki steak, a thin sirloin. The filet is good too, but sometimes can be a bit stewy. For a little extra, you can get flavorful beef fried rice. You are served by Asian ladies in traditional Japanese dress. Try a Midori colada if you crave a sweet tropical drink. They are delicious with coconut milk and Midori melon liqueur. You will likely sit with strangers if you have a smaller party around the teppan grill set for groups of 10. Also expect for you clothes and hair to smell like fried food from dining at the grill table. While many like to go for the chef's show, the food really is good and you get a lot for your buck.
There is also a suburban Northbrook location.
