Description: My last visit to a restaurant in Amsterdam, was a real flop. Especially because I was recommended that this was a good restaurant. So you can imagine, when I asked a person the question: Do you know maybe a nice restaurant nearby? And I was told: "Go to Bickers, which lies at the water and it is great!" I had my doubts. But it is a great restaurant.
Location
Address: On Westerdok in Amsterdam. At the port in the Zeehelden neighbourhood. Street: Bickerswerf 2, 1013 KX Amsterdam. Accessible from the CS bus line 48.
Interior
The Bickerswerf is located right on the water. It is also a stop of the hop-stop boats. You walk down to the water and there's a cozy restaurant on the corner. Just the terrace is superb. The first thing you notice are the sturdy wooden deck chairs. Nice modern and pleasant. On the terrace were when we arrived all places booked. But because we were early, we could still take place, because that table was reserved only at 7.30 hours. Gradually flows more people (who had booked) on the terrace. The owner knows many of its guests by name. That says everything, a restaurant with solid regulars. In any case, the decoration of the terrace on the water had something. But then you go inside. Even then follows that great atmosphere.
There is first an hall, with a few tables. Then a steep wooden staircase down and you're immediately in a cozy living room. The heater to the wall and wooden tables with chairs. Nostalgic with a modern interior touches. Very rare and attractive. In the middle is a large modern bar and behind the bar is a nice bright room with modern colors, high tables and stools. Quite different from the atmosphere in the front room. But all blends nicely with each other. The rear room is more for parties and receptions. It turns out that this restaurant is known for its tapas receptions.
staff
Here I can only get excited about. They are nice young people who served us. Fortunately we do not have to wait long. The menu is immediately given and we are quickly provided with our drinks. The menu in itself is quite remarkable. An aluminum booklet with a wooden edge. The card itself is a little Japanese-oriented. Tuna with nori, salad Tepan Yaki. Right after the lady has brought us the menu, a waiter brings some corn bread and olive oil with sea salt. Simple, but nice.
Menu
The menu is excellent. There are lunches with sandwiches, there are fish, meat and vegetarian dishes and children menus. Especially the last I never expected with this restaurant. The menuwas Japanese-based with tuna and wasibi. But there are also the simple dishes like spare ribs or steak. Neatly arranged on a square plate was broughtthe tournedos. Then I must say that I had asked for medium done and the cook must have not well understood, because it was not medium. The portions are decent. What struck me, yes I know, it's the little things I notice, the sauces used are I think they are homemade. The food was delicious. I can see why the tent is full! And the price for this quality, excellent. The operation despite the crowds, very good.
Parking
In Amsterdam, in the city, it's always difficult to find a place. Everywhere there is paid parking or permits. Actually, I suggest you take the train to come. And then take bus number 48 just before the Central Station. Three stops to Barentszplein. Because this restaurant is about 5 minutes walk from the bus stop away.
Facilities
It is not wheelchair accessible. Steep stairs. There is enough space between the tables.
The toilet is beautifully modern. Notice the rusty-looking sink! What a nice design. But too bad that the toilet seat does not fit. All is fine and then this annoying detail. On the toilet, I can say that it looks hygienic. I think they're regular cleaning. To me that is just a bonus.
Payment
Several payment methods are possible. Cash, credit cards and debitcard. The restaurant has a good value for money. A fillet of 200 grams for 22.50 euros and 15.50 for ribs. This I give as examples, to indicate that the prices are reasonable.
Conclusion
Bickers to me is a real winner. It is a nice location in Amsterdam. The prices are affordable and the quality of the food is great. Too bad it always so busy. I give 4 stars for this restaurant.
