Nathan's

The lines are long and the sun is hot, but Nathan’s is a must-stop in Coney Island.

Nathan’s has been serving hot dogs since 1916 and annually holds the World’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest. (The record is 53 1/2 dogs in 12 minutes.) My favorite is chili cheese with sauerkraut. The cheese fries are amazing and the portions are huge. I can never finish a meal there. Other favorites are onion rings, hot-dog nuggets, hamburgers and french fries. Everything is excellent.

There isn’t much seating, but it’s only a short walk to the beach. I always end up talking to people while waiting in line. Must be the excitement of truly getting one of the tastiest hot dogs in America. And try their lemonade—it’s amazing!

Nathan’s products have soared in popularity, and they’ve expanded, with stores in Israel and Egypt, and are sold in 41 states in the US and 17 foreign countries. And this is the place where it started over 90 years ago.

And here's a tip: there's a second Nathan's if you walk towards the ocean, right on the boardwalk. They have a limited menu, but the wait is usually much shorter.

Open year-round.

Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs

A trip to New York isn't complete without having a Nathan's hot dog. Sure, you can get them at many airports and malls throughout the country now, but they seem to taste differently in New York.

You can find a Nathan's in every neighborhood. They are often in with Roy Rogers, Dunkin Donuts, and other multi-offering facilities. Or take a subway ride out to Coney Island in Brooklyn and visit the original.

The menu is simple. Hot dogs are their specialty. They also offer chicken sandwiches, burgers, and chicken nuggets, but don't waste your time. The hot dogs are the main attraction. And perhaps even better than the hot dogs at Nathan's are the french fries. These are the best fast food fries in the business.

This is a great place to grab a meal in a hurry. It is wallet friendly and kid friendly. What kid doesn't love hot dogs and fries? This is New York fast food at its finest so give it a try........at least once. You'll be glad you did!

Nathan's Hot Dogs

This is the first Nathans on Coney Island. Pig out on hot dogs and fries and if you are there on July 4th, they hold an Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest. This is no joke! This is a serious contest, with live television crews and police barricades and scores of fans and curious onlookers (like myself). When all is said and done, they crown the new winner, who then has a press conference and photo ops. I kid you not!!
