Description: We’d been told that there were loads of restaurants in Liverpool One and as it was only a short few steps away from our hotel we decided to give it a whirl. We walk past the Monument celebrating Queen Victoria’s life and with the City’s Law Courts on our right we take a walkway and then... Right in front of us is the area known as Liverpool One. In effect it’s a large modern shopping area and whilst we were expecting a more traditional area we couldn’t complain about the number of restaurants. They were spread out in front of us around a large open courtyard, which with Christmas just around the corner (well in terms of the commercial world) there was the beginnings of a Christmas Market being formed. I suspect there are always rides for the children in this area but the stalls were distinctly Christmassy.
Ahead were the majority of restaurants and we heard a couple of small groups discussing their dining experience at Red Hot World Buffet. It was right at the end of the walkway and we decided that we’d give it a whirl. Red Hot World Buffet is a large cosmopolitan restaurant offering a wide range of food from different countries including China, India, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Italy, The Caribbean and for £12.99 you can help yourself from the buffet as many times as you want.
The Liverpool restaurant is a recent addition for this chain of restaurants and it was almost full. That’s remarkable because it was mid-week and the restaurant can pack 400 diners into the place. We were initially offered a table for two next to a large table accommodating a party of 20 or 30 people and I decided that this was likely to get a little raucous so went off in search of a quieter area. I found one with a table for four and after a little negotiation the waitress moved us across to this quieter spot.
After taking our order for drinks she explained that we could now go and help ourselves from the buffet. Well there is over 100 foot of serving space in the restaurant and you can see the chefs at work as you pass by so an initial cursory wander only sought to confuse.
Certainly we weren’t going to be experiencing all the food that’s available and despite my pledge to take on a small helping as a starter I ended up with much more on my plate than I intended. Well it all looked very good and so I had a little bit of most things that were available around the cold buffet. Well in truth it wasn’t all cold because in this area there are also inter-mingled many main courses and of course I couldn’t resist.
As well as the starters and main courses Red Hot World Buffet has a great array of desserts. These are served in small portions so the temptation is to try a number. Well, not much of a temptation as far as I was concerned, more of a foregone conclusion. My most bizarre choice? A bright blue bubble gum flavoured ice cream! And guess what? It tasted of bubblegum!
Overall this is not a bad dining experience. Of course you’re not pampered with waitress service but the food is very tasty and the choice beyond belief.
I wouldn’t want to dine in this style regularly, but if you want a buffet style meal check out Red Hot World Buffet.
