When visiting Chicago, we dined at the Corner Bakery three or four times. The staff there was extremely courteous and the food was wonderful! They offer everything from pasta to salad to sandwiches and fresh-baked goodies. I highly recommend the Corner Bakery for a quick meal that is more enjoyable than the typical fast-food experience.

The Corner Bakery has a very central location and great food and is good for budget travellers. The downside is that this place is a chain. So, if you are looking for authentic Chicago food, you'll want to eat elsewhere. Having said that, this is a very affordable location with very good food right smack in the middle of the action. I stopped here to grab a quick dinner and was pleasantly surprised with the tomato and mozzarella sandwich. It tasted very fresh and left me very full. There were many options on the menu, including sandwiches, soup, salads, and pasta dishes. There was also a full line of hot breakfasts for under $5. The atmosphere is like a café. It is fine for families, single travellers, couples, and groups.

My husband and I loved waking up in the morning and walking down to the Corner Cafe to get breakfast. We did this every morning throughout our trip. This place can be packed, but that's a good sign. They've got homemade French toast, muffins, eggs and bacon, granola...you name it. Stand in line, it's worth the price and the fresh food. You'll be ready for a day of shopping after breakfast at the Corner Bakery. We found that we were rarely hungry for dinner after eating here in the morning and then grabbing a snack for lunch.

Corner Bakery is a chain of restaurants with numerous locations throughout the city. It’s a popular spot with downtown office-workers looking for a quick breakfast or lunch with more nutritive value than the traditional fast food fare. On weekends, tourists discover it’s a convenient place to stop for a bite and avoid the high cost of meals at the area’s posh hotels. The stone floors and small wooden tables and chairs placed close together reminded me of European cafes I’ve visited. Black and white framed photographs on the walls are a nice touch. Service is friendly and efficient.

The Sunday morning my friend and I stopped in, it was already crowded, but we did manage to find an open table. This is a strictly self-service place. Get in line, pick up a tray and peruse the offerings for the day. Even though it was fairly crowded when we stopped by, the line moves quickly. Choices range from breakfast and lunch paninis, sandwiches, pastries, and various hot dishes. I opted for the ham and egg panini, a delicious combination of ham, scrambled eggs and cheese on toasted panini bread. My friend had the All American Scrambler, consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and choice of toast. Adding beverages for the two of us brought the final tally to less than $12, which is probably less than what you’d pay for one breakfast in a downtown hotel.
