It is located in Downtown Disney on the West Side. Inside it is themed to look like 1930's-1940's Cuba with tiled murals on the walls. Loud Latin music fills the restaurant.
We ate outside on the balcony overlooking Downtown and the water. The view was great and we found it slightly less crowded/noisy than inside.
The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. Our glasses were never empty. Extra plates were immediately removed from our table.
What did we eat? Well, we started with a pitcher of sangria. It was good, but not great. I'm a little biased because the best sangria I've ever had was in Spain. (No where else has topped it.)
Our appetizer was Tostones Rellenos con Camarones Picadillo. This is stuffed green plantains with shrimp creole. You can also order it with beef creole. These were tasty and not too spicy. The plantains were fried, when I tried this dish at South Beach it was baked.
For dinner I had Pechuga de Pollo a la Plancha. This is grilled chicken with onions. This was cooked with a variety of spices. It came with black beans and rice. I requested maduros (sweet plantains), rather than tostones (green plantains). Green plantains have a more potato like or starchy taste. Maduros are deliciously sweet.
For dessert we had flan. It was very creamy and sweet.
Bongos is a neat experience. Besides the sit down restaurant, there is a small window and fast food area where you can pick up a few appetizers or other items for a quick meal. The view of Downtown from the balcony is great. It can get busy late at night. Around 7pm we didn't have trouble getting a seat.
