What a Disappointment!

We dined there for our anniversary on 4/4/08. The atmosphere was lively; a one-man band playing some really great songs, but that is where it stopped.

I ordered the Steak & Shrimp-$23 with a baked potatoe with sour cream bacon and cheese as my main course. We ordered the crab dip w/ chips as our appetizer. The crab appetizer was ok, but too creamy. It stuck to the roof of my mouth, almost the consistency of peanut butter. My steak was very charred around the edges and so dry and not cooked to consistency. My baked potatoe was cold.

We were so disappointed!!!

This restaurant is located behind The Yachtsman Resort on Ocean Boulevard, Pier 14 is right over the ocean. You certainly can’t beat the view, and they even have live entertainment in the bar area.

We have gone here each time we have been to the area. We were lucky to have found it and just love it. The food is done to perfection and the atmosphere is superb.

My wife loves the filet mignon (about $18) and I have enjoyed their steak and shrimp special (about $19). Alongside of this we were able to have their delicious desserts, cheesecake ($4), and the key lime pie ($4); plus, they also have some pretty good drinks to wash it all down. The drinks were so good that the last time we went we decided to order a pitcher ($15 to 20) depending on the type, and you get about four or five drinks out of a pitcher. They even have happy hour from 4 to 6 pm.

One bad thing about the restaurant is trying to find a parking spot. The first year we barely found a spot, and the next time we went we decided to go by bus, to avoid the hassle of trying to park, and we were then able to have a few drinks. The bus goes up and down the strip, we were able to pick it up right outside our resort, and it dropped us off right next door to the Yachtsman. The bus goes by every 15 minutes or so.

We also recommend a reservation (even though their website says they don't take one, Phone: (843)448-4314) because even with one we had a half-hour wait and heard that those coming in were to wait without one in the 90-minute time frame. Plus, if you want to send home a postcard from the area, go here; with the check you get a couple of theirs with some pretty interesting photos.

This is located just as the name implies out above the ocean on pier 14. It is one of the more expensive places that I have eaten, but the food was not impressive. I had crab cakes and it was the first time. It might be that I just don't like crab cakes. It was the cheapest thing on the menu, I think, at about $18. I will not revisit.

The atmosphere at Pier 14 was great. We had a table by the window, where we watched the waves from the Atlantic Ocean crash to shore, while eating a wonderful seafood dinner.

Pier 14 We wanted to eat, just once, at a nice restaurant on the water. This fit the bill. Located behind The Yachtsman Resort on Ocean Boulevard, Pier 14 is right over the ocean. You certainly can’t beat the view!

It’s a popular place, and we arrived just after 5pm in hopes of getting a seat fairly quickly. We were told that we’d be seated in an hour, and we settled in for the wait. A few of us wandered off now and again to explore the area. After an hour and a half, we were grumbling and my father-in-law loudly complained. Finally seated after a 2-hour wait, a complaint to the manager brought profuse apologies and free appetizers all around.

The clam chowder was outstanding, as was my prime rib. I hadn’t had a cut of meat that tender in a long while. My husband had the chicken crustacean and he was absolutely blown away. He talked about that meal for days afterward. My in-laws said their lobster was superb. One daughter had the ravioli and liked it very much. The other daughter had the Monterey chicken and was unimpressed. As for sides, the salad was nothing special, but the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious!
