Old World Italian Restaurant

We're from New York. We're also Italian, so to say that we are spoiled when it comes to Italian food is an understatement. To tell you the truth, when we received a coupon at the resort for dinner for two at a little Italian restaurant in Garden City Beach, we were a bit skeptical. "We're in South Carolina - what do they know about Italian food," I mumbled as we pulled into the nondescript parking lot. Boy, were we wrong.

Old World Italian Restaurant is a taste of the Bronx, transplanted south. There's Sinatra playing softly in the background, candles on the tables, and then there's George, the owner, greeting us with a distinct "How ya doin'?" I thought I was back in New York.

As we chatted with George, who, as it turns out, was from Hoboken, NJ, of all places, my husband enjoyed a Peroni (an Italian beer he had while stationed in Sardinia) and I had an excellent white Zinfandel. The bread is baked on premises, although I joked with George that he had it flown down every morning from Arthur Ave. Salads are fresh and not drowned in dressing. My chicken marsala was exquisite. Chris had mussels on that visit, and on our subsequent visit, ordered manicotti. "Very good," Chris groaned as he adjusted his belt.

Cappucino and canolis finished the meal. We make it a habit to visit Old World every time we come back to Myrtle Beach. You should, too.
