The Brewery Apollo (Bryggeriet Apollo)

Yes, this place is known for brewing its own beer, which is perfect beverage to accompany the REAL attraction: their dry-rub ribs! Plentiful platters of food (mainly ribs, but lots of other choices also) are served every evening at this modernistic yet old-fashioned brewery-restaurant.

Right from the start, you get the impression that this is something out of the ordinary as you see your shoes being hoisted up to the ceiling in a woven basket (yes, they let you take them off before they hoist 'em up!). You can then choose to sit upstairs with a view of Scala and the crowds of Tivoli Gardens or downstairs in the more quaint, old-fashioned box'n'booth section, down by the beer brewer kettles.

The menu is typical southern American barbeque foods with the ribs being the prime item, but as mentioned, there are several choices of other dishes. Almost all dishes are served with to-die-for coleslaw and biscuits. Their trademark, of course, is their homebrewed, non-carbonated beer, which really DOES go well with the dry-rub and is served not by the ounce but by the gallon! Good thing the alcohol content is kept a bit lower than traditional European beer or no one would remember what the food tastes like. So, is this a place to bring kids? Absolutely! My three-year-old niece charmed the entire staff from the host to the chefs and they positively adore seeing the little ones all wrapped up in ribs, BBQ sauce from ear to ear.

This is probably the truest American dining you'll find in the heart of Copenhagen, and for any BBQ fans it is an absolute MUST!
