NBA Restaurant at Universal

Very disappointing! I expected more after visiting their website. The food was not good. Our baked potatoes were old and cold. The steaks were not tasty, and the only thing good here was the milkshake. And we spent $79 for a family of five but left hungry and disappointed.

One of the reasons we chose this restaurant was because of the games advertised for our teenage boys -- they had five games, that's all. Just five, unlike on their website, which showed an entire room. Steer clear from this one -- too much money for bad food and no fun.

I liked this restaurant. If you are a basketball fanatic, you'll like this place. The food is good and you can watch previously aired basketball games and reports while you eat. They also have the NBA store (located at the entrance).

Also located at Universal’s Citywalk, NBA City has a gigantic statue of a basketball player out front. Located on the Westside of Citywalk next to the Hard Rock Café, the restaurant features autographed photos and jerseys all over the walls from famous players past and present and some WNBA players as well. The gift shop was a little lacking in our opinion. They only featured Lakers and Spurs gear and several Lebron James items while our beloved Denver Nuggets were left out. They also had a game room with basketball shootout games and a photo booth that would put you or your child’s face on the cover of a basketball magazine. We were there to watch the Nuggets/T’wolves game on satellite, so we skipped the restaurant and asked to be seated in the bar, which was on the second floor. However, we forgot that it was Monday Night Football (Packers vs. Chiefs) and every TV in the bar was tuned in. We asked the waitress and then the manager if we could watch the Nuggets game and he obliged, which we thought was nice considering the football contingent present. We got to watch the game at the bar on a plasma screen TV next to a couple from Wisconsin watching the football next to us on another plasma screen.

They served the standard brews on tap – Bud, Bud Light, and Miller Lite. The only microbrew they had was Sam Adams. We enjoyed a chocolate brownie ice cream dessert as well, which was sufficiently decadent for our evening out. With its earthy brown wood décor and friendly bartenders, this is definitely a man’s bar, but more sophisticated than your average sports grill. One added feature is the view from the second floor bar of the eastside of the Citywalk and the entrance to Universal Studios.

We stopped here after spending the morning at Universal Studios. What a pleasant surprise. The service was superb and the food was great. In k0eeping with the NBA theme, there is a large screen showing basketball highlights, which the adults and kids liked equally. I would definitely suggest this spot and will go again!
