We Love The French Market and We Love Neisha

We Love The French Market and We Love Neisha

This is one of the bedrocks of our trips to N'Awlins. We have been here numerous times - always sitting on the balcony overlooking Decateur. We love the food (obviously), we love the location, we love the live jazz across the street, we love the sound of the horse drawn carriages trotting down the street and the sound of the occasional paddleboat going down the Mississippi.

Get there at dusk. The sky is beautiful.

Day 1: We did our thing at the convention center then went for bloody marys and raw oysters on the half-shell at the Market. We ordered a couple dozen and had a wonderful time there. Neisha made us feel really welcomed.

Day 2: We dragged our tired asses here and asked for a seat on the balcony. The creature at the wait station said it might be a while and walked off. When we caught her eye we told her that we'd like to be seen by Neisha and she suddenly changed her tune. Neisha grabbed us, welcomed us, seated us in a fabulous seat on the balcony and ran off to get us cocktails.

It was an outrageously busy night but Neisha took such good care of us. We got drinks when we wanted them, we had our food on time - and it was goooooood!

We love French Market and we love us some Neisha!

Unfortunately, the lady who posted the previous review has the wrong restaurant. The place she writes about is across the street, the French Market Cafe, and everything she writes about it is true. The food and service is wonderful there.

The French Market Restaurant and Bar is directly across Decatur Street. However, the food and service are atrocious there. A friend and I visited in March 2008, and I ordered a crab cakes appetizer that took almost 2 hours and came burnt on the outside and RUNNY on the inside! Who ever heard of RUNNY crab cakes? They were floating in a burnt sauce that I think started life as creamed corn. Totally disgusting and inedible! The fried alligator tail appetizer took 1 1/2 hours, and I think they fried it the whole time. It was like chewing pieces of a tire. The service was terrible. A table of 12 was seated next to us, but they got up and left after 15 minutes without being served even water! I only wish we had left after our first 15 minutes. This place is a shame to the great city and its tradition of fine dining.

This is one of the few spots in New Orleans that we love so much we have returned to more than TWICE! Why? The ambience . . . yes. The wait staff is always friendly, colorful, and welcoming. We love the catfish, crawfish gumbo, Hurricanes, and just about everything we've ever sampled here. We would choose it over Cafe du Monde any time for breakfast. It was even our choice for lunch on Christmas Day. We could actually sit outside! The service is good and so is the food. It's great for people-watching and for a quick bite after shopping at the French Market.

Some of my favorites also include crawfish (sloppy to eat but SOOOO good), fried oyster po'boy, catfish po'boy, and great fries!!!. If you are looking for real food, it puts Cafe du Monde to shame. . .
