Description: . . . wished we hadn't!
This was a destined failure from the start, dating back more than two weeks before our trip to New Orleans. I tried to make reservations for their Friday evening show after what I had planned would be our Friday night dinner here. Refusing to pay Ticket Master service fees for a relatively inexpensive show prices, I had hoped to buy tickets the day of the show but it didn't work out that way.
On the Sunday of our time in New Orleans, I tried to call in a dinner reservation but couldn't get through their phone system to a live body. It seemed every option ended up in voice mail including their "press 2 for reservations" choice. Oh well.
Because we thought they might have a wait, we decided to punt and try Menas Palace which was caddie-corner from our timeshare resort. Unfortunately, that place was only open for breakfast and lunch. So without another game plan, we figured we'd go ahead and see how things were at House of Blues before looking for other alternatives.
When we arrived there was no wait, so we went ahead and got seated. Our server Brittany was prompt with taking our drink order and bringing them out. For dinner, I ordered a house salad and burger. David ordered their club sandwich. The food came out promptly, but unfortunately my burger was served on a burnt bun. Because Brittany was nowhere to be found once our meals were served, I was prepared to eat the meat without the bun. You can imagine my disappointment, however, when I cut into my "well done" burger only to find it raw inside. YUCK!
David was nearly finished with his sandwich before our server returned to check on how our sandwiches were. When I told her my food was not edible and that I would need to see the menu again to order something else, she made no apologies for the crappy burger they served me.
I then ordered their pulled pork sandwich, with was OK. Nothing special and over sauced with a sweet BBQ. The french fries were served less than hot, barely warm in fact. The sandwiches (burger, club and pulled pork) were $11 a piece which is a bit high considering other dining options around town.
It's not often that we have a bad experience using Restaurant.com discounts but this is one that I can say was about as bad as it could be . . . right down to the large cockroach that was seen crawling across the wooden bench over my shoulder. Thankfully we were done dining or that might have sent us for the front door.
So maybe they are the temple of music and worth a visit if there is someone playing of interest. Obviously, they are not known for the food and it is not someplace we will ever return to . . . in this city or any other in their franchise.
