Breakfast at Brennan's

When I plan to visit New Orleans I always leave room in my budget for Breakfast at Brennan's. This is not just a meal, it's an event. Plan to spend 2-3 hours with friends dicussing your adventures in the Big Easy. The three-course brunch is the way to go. At $35 per person you get appetizers, entree, and dessert. I have tried all of the eye-openers on the menu.

The Mr. Funk is a nice champagne mix. Mimosas are popular, as well as the milk punch. Brennan's is the creator of Egg's Benedict and Banana's Foster. My final word for this restaurant is "mmmmm."

New Orleans has to be one of the greatest dining experiences for your palate. In no other American city can one taste such varied cuisines, by walking such short distances to the next excellent meal.

While researching New Orleans before our trip, I came across the Brennan's menu. I printed it out for my husband to see, so I could convince him that while this wouldn't be the cheapest meal on our trip, it might be the most memorable. My ploy worked and I made reservations three weeks in advance!

Brennans

As we entered 417 Royal Street we were transported to another world. Our senses were immediately assaulted by all kinds of delicious smells. As we were led to our table, we saw one of the waiters making Brennan's most famous dish, Bananas Foster.

We had Boris as our waiter and he was fabulous. You don't just get a waiter at Brennan's, you get a history lesson and a theatrical experience.

We Ordered:

Oyster Soup to start

Eggs Nouvelle Orleans

Eggs Houssarde

Bananas Foster

Crepes Fitzgerald

Needless to say the food was superb and we did not eat lunch that day! My husband was heartbroken to have to skip a meal when so many tasty choices awaited us around ever corner.

As restaurant experiences go, Brennan's is NOT to be missed.

This was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have ever had. My husband and I did the "Breakfast at Brennan's" which was a prix fixe meal for $38.95. The breakfast was a three course meal -- appetizer, entree, and dessert. Everything was delicious and the traditional bananas Foster was prepared right at our table. Quite entertaining. The portions were generous, and neither of us had to eat again until dinner.

We had two waiters who were attentive, professional, and friendly. My coffee cup was always full. I was skeptical when I heard what the price was going to be, but it was definitely a "travel experience" that I won't forget.

This is one of the few restaurants we go back to every time we are in New Orleans. Service and food remain excellent. We usually go at noon during the week because we have a choice of their traditional New Orleans breakfast or a limited menu of lunch specials, which are sometimes too good to pass up.

While Brennans is not on the River Road, I thought that you might want to go into New Orleans one night for dinner and this is the place to go.In my opinion Brennan's is the best of the best. It is considered the most beautiful restaurant in all of New Orleans's by many, myself included. While definetely expensive, it is worth the splurge just to experience not only superb meals but the care that the staff takes with you. While it may sound like a cliche, everyone really is treated like royalty. The owners mandate to the staff is that you are to be treated as if you are in his private home. There is no sign on the Greek Revival home advertising the restaurant and you must ring the doorbell to be admitted. You will be ushered into a victorian parlour where you may order your drinks before being taken to your table. Strolling musicians bring atmosphere and ambiance to a delightful dining experience. And I have not even begun to mention the meal itself! In a city where food is a major part of your experience, Brennan's outdoes itself. My turtle soup was better than any that I had ever had, my husbands crab in puff pastry literally melted in your mouth....and I can't tell you how many pounds we gained from the dessert. There is no doubt that it is expensive, but if you only go all the way once in awhile, this is the place to do it. Reservations are absolutley a must and the wait is usualy 6 weeks or more. Call early. To close, good thing I don't live in New Orleans or I would weigh 300 lbs!
