Kelly and I head up to the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company after a few hours on Bourbon Street. She's wanted to eat there since we saw it. Since the release of Forrest Gump in 1994, Kelly has been saying to me and anyone else that would listen, "Me an' Jenny is like peas and carrots." As we are being lead to our table we past the gift shop and Kelly says, "I have to get something that says that (above quote) from there."

The tabletop itself has other gumpisms scrawled across it, like, "Stupid is as stupid does," and even Bubbaisms, like "Shrimp is the fruit of the sea..." A blue license plate that says "Run Forest Run" is in a metal holder, and our waiter explains to us that whenever we need anything, we just need to flip the plate to the red side that says "Stop Forrest!". That way they always know who to help. Cool!

There's lots of fish and cajun stuff on this menu, just like lots of other New Orleans restaurants. I wasn't in a very seafoody mood that night and copped out by ordering a cheeseburger. Kelly, however, in the Bubba Gump spirit ordered "Bubba's After the Storm Bucket of Boat Trash", a bucket full of shrimp, lobster and mahi mahi, served with cole slaw and fries. Yum.

The atmosphere of the place is nothing spectacular. Pictures of the actors from the movie grace the walls, nice pictures of Jenny looking angelic, always the way Forrest saw her. If you didn't enjoy the movie, you probably wouldn't like this place. I'm sure that you can get better shrimp in other New Orleans haunts, so being a fan is the only real reason to come.

This place was the sunshine that I needed during my rainy stay in New Orleans. The staff went over and beyond to make us feel at home, even as far as to get a towel to dry off my girls.

The food is superb! Please try the stuffed shrimp with crab over rice. Beware of the side of mashed potatoes -- it's like a small mountain with French onions sprinkled on top. I loved the signs they have on the table to get the server's attention. Either you flip it to "Run Forrest" meaning everything is ok, or you can flip it to "Stop Forrest" and the server will recognize it immediately. I will definitely patronize there again the next time I am in town because I didn't get dessert and it looked delicious, but I just couldn't eat another bite.

Right in the heart of the French Quarter. Sit on outside balcony overlooking activities. Great seafood, especially the coconut shrimp -- they are the best!

Nice atmosphere, but the service was terrible. Smoking allowed in non-smoking section until we complained. Located on Decatur Street and near many other places to eat or drink.

Bubba Gumps is FUN. You can share a plate of Cajan shrimp--excellent shrimp, for an excellent price. An order of their mashed potatoes is huge. And the Mud Pie... to die for. It stands about 7 inches high and was enough for 3 people--WOW! This is a very fun and casual place. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. I would recommend to anyone, whether on a tight budget or not, to enjoy this place with a group of friends or family. It's quick and has extremely friendly service.
