Hickory Hollow

Ally and I were in Houston for Christmas break. On a cloudy December 28, we drove over to the heights neighborhood of Houston and tried the family friendly old-school Hickory Hollow restaurant. They had me at the chicken fried steak and the all-you-can-drink soda fountain!

Here is what we ate: I had the 3 meat plate with beef brisket (chopped), sausage, and chicken fried steak. Side of potato salad and friend okra. Ally had a 2 meat place with chicken fried steak and beef brisket (sliced). And a side of hot tots (like super sized tater tots studd with mashed potatoes) and friend zucchini. I would have to say that the chicken fried steak was the highlight since not all BBQ places serve it! All this food plus drinks cost only $26.22.

It was a great local treat. In Houston, you have to give thanks for a non-chain local restaurant (though there are a few locations in Houston). There were some out of towners from Kansas there to cheer the Kansas State football team that was playing in the Texas Bowl vs. Rutgers. Rutgers beat 'em pretty bad.
