We had a late lunch at this wonderful seafood restaurant in Charleston. The tables have little signs giving the name of a famous person who ate there. It has a wonderful menu with many specials. As soon as we sat down, the waiter took our drink order and brought a basket of boiled peanuts. I wish I lived closer to this restaurant because the food and service were so good.

Food, Service, Frienliness: All 5 Stars

Two of us couples were on a 2 week road trip up the eastern seaboard celebrating our 50th anniversaries.
On the sightseeing bus they pointed out Hymans which we had never heard of before. So that night we went there for dinner and were totally delighted.
After ordering our meal Mr. Rusty came around and asked where we were from . We explained that we were from Wheaton,Il. and the other couple from Loveland ,Co. and were celebrating our 50th.
In a few minutes along came the waitress with a large shrimp appetizer courtesy of Mr. Rusty. Then came our delicious seafood dinners. Now we are really full and the waitress arrived with a soup bowl of brownies and ice cream , again courtesy of Mr. Rusty.

The next night was to be our last in Charleston so we decided to go back to Hyman's because it was so good.
That night our host was Mr. V. When he heard our story about Rusty he said he could do better than that and gave us free tee shirts and baseball hats from Hyman's.
Again our meal was delicious and we left with fond memories of Hyman's and of Charlestonn.

I am shocked by some of the bad reviews here.... this place was amazing!
We heard about Hymans through Southern Living and decided to check it out. Casual, fun atmosphere with A+ service and a scrumptious menu! This is a MUST go to restaurant. As a New Englander, I am very particular about my seafood, and Hymans certainly satisfied my craving along with a delicious southern flare. We will ALWAYS recommend this place to anyone we know venturing into Charleston.

Delish! Like Dinner at a Friend's House

Definately a Charleston must do! The atmosphere was interesting with undertaed style. But look for the beautiful iron staircase; it's beautiful. Staff are exceptionally friendly and responsive. We felt very welcomed. We had lively discussion around the table cards; you must take a few to share with friends and colleagues at home.

Recommend the Seafood Alfredo Fettuccine, She Crab Soup, and Fish & Chips. Our group liked everything they ordered. Food was fresh and tasty. Owner, Eli Hyman came by and talked with us to see if we were pleased and also interested in where we were from and had a delightful chat. While the staff are fast, they never make you feel rushed but talk with you like an old friend.

You must go upstairs and down the little back stairwell;don't miss all the interesting wall art, and framed photos. There are stories behind everything which makes for an interesting experience on your way down to the general store. Cool t-shirts, hats, ice cream and mugs are available for purchase at very reasonable prices.

Hyman's is a Charleston Gem !

A long-standing Charleston landmark, Hyman's is a wonder in self-promotion. Somehow it comes off being fun: the T-shirts everywhere, the coupons for free crab dip all over town, the free umbrellas if it's raining, the million autographed photos from the famous and formerly famous who've eaten there, the business-card sized lists of good advice (one of which is still in my wallet, actually).

The building is a multistory maze that makes you glad you're being escorted to your table. You can order nearly anything that lives in the ocean and have it fried, grilled, baked, blackened, or dusted in confectioner's sugar. The kitchen must be an amazing place, because the service is fast and the food hot.

I'd been here on my first visit to Charleston and wanted to go back. I think twice is enough.
