This is where the entire IgoUgo group landed for dinner on Monday night. It was hard to decide as restaurants form continuous ribbons on both sides of this street. We stood outside for a little while waiting for them to ready a table. Ours was the largest group and included Jim, Jennifer, Colleen, Lisa, Kent, Mike, Chuck and myself. We were given a long table toward the rear of the restaurant, and the leather bound menus came promptly.
If you are vegetarian, this is a great place for you to eat as you order any of their dishes and omit the meats. There is enough rice, eggplant, split peas or lentils, beans, walnut sauces, salads to fill your every nook and cranny.
I ordered the # 14 Koobideh Kabob which was huge…, especially since we ordered appetizers for the whole table which we shared, and included eggplant purée, yogurt salad, Persian green salad, pita bread, grape leaves and Greek olives. Everyone seemed very pleased with their meal which actually took a while to be served; this can only mean that it’s not frozen and thrown into some microwave deal.
The wait staff was very attentive, and everyone also enjoyed the wine bottles; I can’t recall how many; Kent and Mike D. continued the drinking at another restaurant after we finished this meal.
There may have been a couple of other guests in the place, but I don’t remember it being filled. We were all too stuffed for dessert which would have been on the order of super sweet and syrupy baklava.
Sadaf has another restaurant in La Jolla at 613, Pearl Street. Telephone is (858)551-0668.
