Great guacamole made at your table; huge, yummy chimichangas. A touch touristy, but very tasty. Massive margaritas in various flavours. Attractive restaurant, friendly staff, clean facilities.

Pipi's

Pipi’s was the first restaurant we visited in Puerto Vallarta. It had been recommended by a friend who visits there often, and she did not steer us wrong. We had traveled all day, checked into our hotel, and immediately went out looking for food. As we were waiting to put in our names, the guy in front of us produced a coupon. When it was my turn, I asked if I could have one too, so we got coupons for 2-for-1 drinks. There were no dinner tables, but we could wait at the bar. Our drinks were enormous, served in the typical Mexican-style large-stemmed, blue-rimmed glass bowl. After two of those, I was a tad tipsy. We barely had started our drinks when a table was available. Immediately, a basket of tortilla chips and excellent salsa was brought to our table, and a few minutes later, a fellow came up and prepared delicious guacamole right in front of us. After all that drinking and eating, there did not seem to be much room for a main course, so we decided to share a smorgasbord of Mexican treats—enchiladas, burritos, tacos, and one other thing, each one absolutely delicious. Mariachis strolled around, playing their guitars and entertaining the guests. The tables were all occupied, and the crowd was very lively. As we left, there was a lineup to get in. The prices were extremely reasonable—our dinner and drinks came to 300 pesos.

This is another favorite haunt of ours. We always visit at least once and always for margaritas and fajitas. It’s a very, very casual evening. All the cab drivers know where it is; if you're walking, it's a couple of blocks from the Malecon--just ask.

This is a very busy restaurant that doesn't take reservations. It's always crowded after 6pm, and the place is buzzing. You can wait in the bar area, probably standing while you have a Grande Margarita or a cervesa. The margaritas come in all flavors and are delicious!! Hopefully your table will be near an overhead fan because it does get very hot. This is a good place for groups--with large portions that make for easy sharing and fun, seasoned waiters.

Fajitas are one of their specialties and come with chicken, beef, shrimp, or even a combo.

As a first-timer, you'll definitely find it great, but unfortunately, we are comparing it to past years. It has always been very touristy--that's not always bad--but it's always fun. But no longer is the guacamole made fresh at the table (unless you pay extra). The portions are still ample, but the service seemed to be fast-food fashion--"eat and run," so that the tables can be turned over.

Strolling musicians no longer play. They walk in, but if no one is willing to pay for the music, they leave. To us it's no longer the "fun" that we remembered. It's not a tourist trap, the value is good, the food is great, and the margaritas are the best--tell them not to use Sprite. Hopefully our last experience is not the norm for Pipi's now. It probably was just too busy.

This trip was the first time we brought family members down to enjoy the area as well. We had a delightful time and ate at a different restaurant each night. It has become a tradition that the first night in here is celebrated at PiPi’s. We have been there at least a half dozen times and have never had a bad meal, a weak drink, or bad service. If you have not been to this wonderful location, you have truly missed out on a piece of authenticity that must be experienced!

The staff at this restaurant will make your head spin. Within one minute of walking in you will be seated, one minute later they will take your drink order and will whip up some fresh made guacamole at your table. The food is good but not exceptional. You should also try the P.V. staple of fishbowl margaritas at Pipi's. The service alone though makes this a worthwhile trip.
