Pleasantly Suprised

Hilo wasn't as beachy and didn't have as many restaurants as we were expecting, so we were at a loss as to where to stop for lunch. We kind of stumbled upon Cafe Pesto and were pleasantly surprised. The pizza was fantastic, as was the turkey sandwich. Prices were about average I guess - there isn't much to choose from in there area, and this was GREAT.

Cafe Pesto in Hilo

Cafe Pesto is known for its delicious pizzas baked in Italian brick ovens that contail ohia and kiawe wood. Their wonderful and exotic pizzas are topped with fresh organic herbs and island-grown produce. Their pizzas and pasta dished run from $7.00 - $20.00. The high-ceilinged 1912 room, with windows looking out over Hilo's bayfront, is filled with wonderful aromas. It's difficult to resist the wild mushroom-artichoke pizza or the popular chipotle and tomato-drenched Southwestern pizza, but go with the Four Seasons-dripping with prosciutto, bell peppers, and mushrooms, it won't disappoint you. Their are other local favorites such as their Milolii, a crab-shrimp-mushroom sandwich with basil pesto; the smoked salmon minipizza appetizer; the chili-grilled shrimp pizza; and the flash-seared poke salad on a bed of spinach. They also have a variety of wines and coffees that you can have with your meal. Cafe Pesto is open from Monday through Thursday from 11am-9pm and Friday through Saturday from 11am-10pm. This is a popular pizza/Pacific Rim restaurant with visitors as well as locals. Service is fast and friendly. Parking can be a problem, especially on the weekends when the parking lot on Bayfront gets crowded. If you can't find parking in front of the restaurant, there is another public parking area across the street. I would highly recommend this nice restaurant if you enjoy Italian food like pasta and pizza.

Cafe Pesto in Hilo

We only stopped at Cafe Pesto for dessert and something to drink, but we loved it there right away. It is big, open, airy, friendly, and reminded me of European cafes, except for the furniture. The menu is fantastic, and so are the prices.

This is a great place to eat, with very inventive food. They have two locations--one north of Kona in the Kawaihae Shopping Center and one in downtown Hilo. Everyone is our party enjoyed their food. It was very attractively arranged and very good.

Pestos is located directly in the town of Hilo. This place was recommended by my fiance's sister, her and her husband, who have come to the Big Island many times (he is stationed at the military base on Oahu) - love to eat at this restaurant. The dining that you will find at this eatery is; a very relaxed atmosphere, beautiful settings, friendly service, and delicious food. It is definitly more of a tourist facility. Their menu has a various selection of foods anywhere from burgers, to chicken, fish and even pizza.

This is a great place to eat and please everyone in your party at the same time. So much to choose from
