Description: We arrived at Wildhorse Saloon after our day down in whisky country a bit early for dinner so we had to choose from their limited lunch menu of sandwiches (pulled pork, bbq beef, chicken or hamburger). This was another dining disappointment as we called on our way back in from Lynchburg so as to time our arrival for dinner. We were assured we could order off "the full menu" and not a limited lunch menu when we arrived. Oh well . . . $12 burgers would have to do.
For $12, you have your choice of a variety of cheeses and toppings. Mom did the bacon & cheddar, while David selected the mushroom & swiss. For me; just a plain hamburger with their "special hamburger sauce" (mayo with spices) along with lettuce and tomato.
The burgers were huge (one-half pound each) and also served with nice crispy (not greasy) french fries. Certainly more than enough to make a meal.
Another Gaylord Entertainment property, I got the feeling that while they serve food, that is not the reason why people come to the Wildhorse Saloon. They advertise and market themselves as the place in Nashville to be for music, booze and dancing. You can see why with the three levels of seating, large stage and dance floor and more bars that I've seen in any other venue like this. The first floor has three and my guess is that there are others on the upper levels as well.
When we arrived at 3;30pm the evening's entertainment was setting up and doing their sound checks. Doing a couple of half songs, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the group. Their music seemed original, although not being a bigger follower of country music, it would be possible for them to be doing covers that I would not recognize.
When we got back to our timeshare, I looked up the evening's band and saw that JC Andersen was on the calendar. Further research turned up that he was a finalist on the show GAC Next Star . . . the C&W version of American Idol. I could see this guy being that good and would have been interested in hearing more had the show been scheduled to start earlier than 6:00pm.
If you come after the music starts, they have staff to teach you how to line dance. When I was here back in 2005 I remember seeing that going on, with lots of out-of-towners learning how to dance Urban Cowboy style.
If you are interested in this genre of music and enjoy the bar scene, this is probably a great place for you to check out. Tomorrow night (New Year's Eve) will surely be crazy, not only here at Wildhorse Saloon, but throughout Nashville. I think we'll spend a quiet old timers' night in our condo.
About the miscommunication over their menu hours, our server Liz was very apologetic. We also had a short visit from the manager Theo. Their concern was appreciated, especially since the source of the bad info was a new staff member working the merchandise counter.
Wildhorse Saloon also participates in the Restaurant.com dining program, so check them out there to cut your dining expenses. A $25 gift certificate can be purchased for $10 . . . and often less than that once you register and receive special promo codes throughout the year. I bought ours for $2 back this past summer. Our total dining expense for this meal was $30 including the cost of the gift certificate and gratuity. Thank God . . . I cannot imagine paying $55 for three burgers and iced teas!!!
